The MyVu Personal Media glasses themselves have two tiny screens one for each eye that are built into the hinge area which project video onto your eye via a pair of prisms located right in front of your eyes.

The prisms are set so that the image appears to be a lot further away and a lot larger than it actually is -- the people at MyVu say that the image looks like it's 120 cm screen being viewed from about 2 m away though after I spent some time with the Crystal Eye wear it did feel more like it was closer to 1 m away.

In any case the fact that your eyes are not being forced to focus on something that is only 2 cm way, I found that you can actually wear the glasses and use the glasses for hours at a time without experiencing eyestrain. MyVu advertised that you will get around four hours of usage between charges and my testing confirmed that: playing a very long movie continuously over about three hours and 50 minutes of usage before the MyVu battery fails. Of course, the iPod's battery may fail before that or your media player which depends on a lot of factors.

With the MyVu media viewer glasses you are able to see things around you and not be totally enclosed so you can actually be out doing things and at the same time have a video or a movie playing. I tested it out on the streets by asking people to guess whether I was paying attention to them, or to watching the video that was playing in my MyVu crystal video glasses, only 50% of people guessed which one.

The fact that you can engage in fairly vigorous activity and still watch the video opens up the possibility of using them while at the gym out and about exercising, or even just pottering around the house doing various chores and tasks. A word of caution though because the glasses projected very bright image onto your rise they do tend to make you look quite scary and, frankly, more than a little bit daemonic if you use in the dark.

As far as the image quality and performance of the MyVu crystal video glasses is concerned, we found the virtual image on the screen is certainly not quite as good as the real world image
, however the resolution on the highest quality is at 640 x 480 pixels, which makes the MyVu crystal lower resolution than reality. Yet the 640 x 480 resolution is certainly higher than any of the portable media devices such as the iPod or iPhone.

In comparing the visual quality of the MyVu crystal video glasses I found that the color compared to that of the ipod and some of the other media players was not quite as vibrant however once you begin watching and become engrossed in the video or movie you tend not to notice that as much until you compare them side by side which you rarely do anyway.
