What are Mystic Topaz?
Mystic Topaz are genuine topaz. They are not synthetic or simulants! They are natural, colorless topaz, often called white topaz or diamond topaz. They have been expertly faceted and carefully treated with a patented process called vapor deposition. This process deposits a translucent layer of color on the back surface of the stone. The result is a dazzling multicolor effect unlike anything else!
Care & Cleaning of Mystic Topaz
The difference in colorless topaz and Mystic Topaz is a thin coating deposited on the back of the stone. Some care must be taken with Mystic Topaz not to scratch that layer of color. Even small scratches can mar the appearance of a stone. If you have unmounted stones treat them carefully and never put more than one stone together in a package as they can rub together and scratch each other.
Once mounted, the back of the stone where the coating is is usually pretty well protected by the setting and so they are much less vulnerable to damage. Your Mystic Fire Topaz jewelry should last for many years.
When cleaning avoid any abrasives or harsh acids. Do not polish or buff the stones. Azotic, the company that developed Mystic Topaz says that they may be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner at 7.0PH for 10 minutes. However there are many imitations and counterfeits on the market where the coating is not as good and I have heard of a number of instances where these stones were ruined by ultrasonic cleaning. So if you are not absolutely sure that your Mystic is authentic, you might not want to risk it. A little soap and water and a soft cloth is usually sufficient anyway.
