Created Christmas Memories ` An Observation of Times Gone By

Looking back over Christmas' past it is easy to see what was most important. It wasn't the shopping, the gifts and the toys - it was creating memories with my children and grandchildren.

There is nothing that touches my heart more than seeing the twinkling eyes and smiling faces of my family enjoying time together.

It wasn't spending money - it was all about spending time!

Memories of Christmas Past

Think back to your most cherished memories of Christmas past. What do you remember most?
  • Hot chocolate with marshmallows after a cold winter walk
  • Hearing bells ringing from the church in our town.
  • Grandma shaking her homemade sugar donuts in brown paper bags
  • Candy cane reindeer with big pompom noses.
  • Children gathered around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve in their new jammies.
  • Making Christmas cookies, squares and nuts and bolts with the kids.
  • Dad in his lazyboy chair in the midst of all the Christmas unwrapping
  • Family pets enjoying the excitement of unwrapping presents and then running away with the paper.

Created Christmas Memories

Twinkling lights on the Christmas tree
Like energy fairies winking at me
The village scene shines with a quiet glow
Peaceful solitude imagined within
A blanket of snow gently falls
Billowing softness covering all
The silence of a cold, crisp night
Crunching snow on an evening walk
Garland cradles front porch rails
Stars a blaze in window seals
Sharing smiles with passersby
The smell of pine caresses the senses
Reminding me of days gone by
Bright shining innocence in the eyes of a child
Gazing up as the parade goes by
Candles burning, smelling sweet
Gingerbread houses and candy cane deer
Hot chocolate comfort and warm fuzzy quilts
Moments of tenderness shared
Reading together of kindness and caring
Remembering others with generous love
Giving and sharing ourselves
Captured in remembrance
It is all about family and friends together
A moment in time.

Our Christmas Tree

Focus Defined at Christmas Time

What Matters Most

It is not in the shopping
The frenzy, the rush
The bustling madness
The getting of stuff.

My focus defined is on observing the joy
The excitement and anticipation of each girl and boy
The taste of hot apple cider
Laughter and touch
Smiling as we recall each Christmas past

If we had but one more Christmas to celebrate
My focus defined would be
The sharing , the laughter
The family gathered round
Playing on the floor with new gadgets we have found
Wearing silly hats
Resting on the sofa after turkey dinner
Eating pumpkin pie but only a sliver
Being more than overfilled with this ultimate joy
Reflecting on memories we captured and recorded in books
Reminding us each where our focus is defined
Family and friends
And quality time.

A Christmas Prayer

A poem I wrote in 1982

My prayer for you this Christmas time
Is to find true love and peace of mind
That kind of joy beyond compare
And strength to carry through your day
That happiness that exceeds all
The love that helps you when you fall
The special inner glow and warmth
That comforts even when you're down
The touch of a friend
When needed
A smile of Love
When not asked
A caring nod, a twinkling eye
That shows you someone cares
The time to spend in peaceful tranquility
With yourself alone
And time to look to Source
Who's always at your side

May this Christmas time be special
To you in some small way
As He offers a glimpse of His perfect Love
On this and every day.

The Spirit of Christmas

November 1982 - written during my search for Christ consciousness in Religion

The spirit of Christmas
Is the love in your heart
The joy and good feelings
Shared with friends you hold dear
The peace of salvation
That shines in your eyes
The perfect contentment
Of knowing
Really knowing
The spirit of Christmas
His Love.

A Christmas Scrapbook

Our Collection of Memories

A couple of years ago I decided to do something special for the family. I searched through all the old pictures of Christmas' past and gathered up all my scrapbooking supplies to create a very special Christmas Memories book.
I added some special notes of moments we had shared over the years when my kids were growing up and carried on right through to the current year.
This book has now become another family tradition as we all sit around reading and looking at the pictures and laughing about some of the funny stories - like the year our Christmas tree star was a little blue smurf.
Now my grandchildren are loving it too when they can look through the book and see their mommy and uncle opening presents on Christmas morning when they were little kids too.
Perhaps you have some special Christmas memories and ideas to share?

Hot, Hazy Summer Days

What to do, what to do!

Thinking back to the summer days when my children were small and all we did to keep cool - from running through the sprinklers, making and eating popsicles, playing in the sand, swimming etc. I had the thought -we could celebrate Christmas in July!!! What fun that would be - we could make crafts, and read christmas and winter stories, wrap presents - well the ideas are endless.
So if you have children who are saying I don't know what to do- check out the great links below for ideas about celebrating Christmas in July.
