Ancient Dreams.....

MACHU PICCHU PERU

Machu Picchu

MACHU PICCHU VIDEO High in the Andes Mountains, The Lost City is now an enigma, and was only discovered in 1911. It is not certain who built it or what took place here, but there are sacred plazas, observatories and temples. It was long ago abandoned and nobody has a clearly theory as to why. Unknown Man & Llama Contemplate Each Other at Machu Picchu

HOW TO HAVE A MYSTICAL MACHU PICCHU EXPERIENCE:

If you are the adventurous type, I highly recommend hiking the Inca Trail to get to Machu Picchu. It is a 3-day, 30-mile trek over the mountains. If you go with a group, guides will carry and cook all the food and provide tents & sleeping bags. I found the guides at a small tour shop in Cuzco, and it was very inexpensive. Mostly I like to be independent, but here I made an exception, and it was well worth it. You get to explore many more ruins along the way, and climb to passes where you are greeted by clouds blowing by. While approaching the highest pass, up ahead of me there was a local Indian playing his flute as he walked. The melody really echoed throughout the valley, and it was so beautiful that I felt like I was in a trance. The music and the view make you feel like you have been tranceported back 500 years. On the last day, you come up over a hill, and finally get your reward for your long journey! Down below is a breathtaking view of Machu Picchu. To me that moment felt magical. I can't imagine it being quite as good just stepping off a bus at the top. If you have the money, there is a posh hotel right at the top, but I was on a budget, and actually didn't mind the more rustic accommodations. At the bottom of the mountain there is a town I stayed in called Aguas Calientes, where there are some inexpensive hot springs to indulge in. I stayed there several days and each day either hiked back up to Machu Picchu, or took the bus up, depending on how much energy I had!
When you've had your fill of Machu Picchu, you hop on the train back to Cuzco.

I was inspired to make a journey to South America after encountering a group of traveling musicians who enchanted me with their haunting Andean flute music.

CLICK HERE TO EXPERIENCE THE BEAUTY OF ANDES MUSIC AT INKA GOLD MUSIC
Hundreds of years ago a tradition began amongst the
ancient Incan people. An elaborate musical tradition
which mimicked the roaring winds and sounds of the
great Andes Mountains. Instruments made of raw
bamboo and clay were created in order to convey the
heart felt sentiments of the Incan people. Today in
this new millennium Inka Gold continues the traditions
created by their ancestors centuries ago. Inka Gold
continues to perform the traditional music of their
grand fathers while using traditional instruments to
create and perform contemporary pieces. Inka Gold
has been performing across the United States since
1998.

UROS ISLANDS, LAKE TITICACA

Floating Islands of Uros in Lake Titicaca

these islands, made of reed, were built so these families could literally push their island away from invaders. Today they're anchored but still live same way. The Lake is the highest freshwater lake in the world. Danny and I both felt a bit of the altitude sickness when we first got there.
