Coventry Hotels, Solihull Hotels

In 2004, it was estimated that around 102 million people visited the West Midlands region of the UK. The best-known city in the area, Birmingham, is often considered England's second city and has an estimated population of 1,006,500. It is also surrounded by smaller towns and cities such as Wolverhampton, Solihull and West Bromwich; however, separated by several miles of greenbelt, is the city of Coventry that lies to the east.

With a population in excess of 305,000 Coventry is the 9th largest city in England and the 11th largest in the United Kingdom. It is also the most in-land city, being further away from the coast than any other in Britain. And, of the 102 million visitors to the West Midlands in 2004, 16 million headed for Coventry.

There are of course many attractions to visiting Coventry and a huge draw for many tourists is the renowned Coventry Cathedral. Open most days between 9am and 5pm, the cathedral houses St. Michael's Hall Treasury, which is designed for the assembly of choir and clergy before services, and St Michael's Tower. For a small charge, visitors are able to climb the tower and experience city-wide views of Coventry from the top.

Alternatively, the Midland Air Museum offers the opportunity to view a range of air-based exhibits, including the Avro Vulcan bomber and more than 30 other historic aircraft, ensuring a fascinating visit for the aerospace enthusiast. Furthermore, of special local interest is the heritage centre dedicated to Sir Frank Whittle, the Coventry-born engineer who designed the jet engine which made modern high-speed aircraft and economical air travel possible.

For those who are looking for a more relaxing visit, Coombe Country Park offers 500 acres of beautiful historic parkland. Widely popular with local residents all year round, it is made up of cultured gardens, natural woodland and special lakeside walks. What's more, the Visitor Centre and Discovery Centre add yet more interest to the park, as do the Heron Table Restaurant and gift shop, but the varied wildlife will perhaps be a main highlight for most visitors, with one of Warwickshire's largest heronries at the site.

Dudley Hotels

When 'Most Haunted's' resident psychic Derek Acorah went to the hotel, he reported the name of a male spirit George Williams/Williamson who was having an affair with a female by the name of Elizabeth Hitchen. George Williams allegedly murdered Elizabeth by strangling and stabbing her. Acorah then revealed that Williams disposed of Elizabeth's body by means of a chute within the hotel, which would have been used, at the time, for the delivery of bottles and barrels. Williams was then reported to have buried the body near the front of the hotel. According to Derek Acorah, Elizabeth Hitchen's body remains there.

Originally built in 1910, the Station was demolished in 1936 in order to build a larger Hotel. This became particularly popular with theatrical artists playing the Hippodrome Theatre, once situated opposite. Laurel & Hardy, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and George Formby are amongst the famous names that have stayed at the Hotel.

It is still a nice comfortable hotel with a good restaurant decorated to reflect its former glory. Ask to be seated at 'Georges' table.

I have held a number of public paranormal investigations at the Station Hotel and have never been disappointed with the level of paranormal activity. If you visit make sure it's on a cellar tour night, we have had people touched, pushed, slapped and in the case of one unlucky customer; thrown back off a chair just as the Planchette was about to start, all in the cellar, and don't forget your camera, 'orbs' a plenty at the Station Hotel, currently rated as my number one hotel for paranormal activity.

Walsall Hotels

Walsall is a huge industrial town located in the West Midlands of England. It is exceptionally popular because the saddles and leather products that the townspeople make are simply the worlds finest.

As a matter of fact, the town of Walsall is renowned as the British leather goods capital. It has ninety companies, three of which are Royal Warrant holders. These leather companies are continuously producing an amazing variety of high quality riding equipment and gift items like belts, purses, and handbags. These very fine leather goods are exported to nearly all parts of the globe.

The leather industry of Walsall had recently suffered from the Foot and Mouth disease outbreak. But despite of this, the industry is striving even harder and continues to thrive for their worldwide reputation as first class and fine quality leather goods producer.

It is known that Queen Elizabeth II adores the leather handbags produced from Walsall. Also, the Royal Household regularly places orders for saddles and other riding equipment from Royal Warrant Holders like the Jabez Cliff & Co., which was founded in 1873.

Really, the Walsall people have been making fine quality leather goods for about two hundred years. Hence today, a museum was built to celebrate this tradition. The Walsall Leather Museum is actually housed in a restored factory of leather. It is located on A4148 Littleton Street and is only a short walking distance from local train and bus stations.

You will be able to witness the story of leather unfolding right in front of your eyes as the museum displays Walsall leather trade and splendid examples of well-crafted leather goods, including the saddles and other riding equipment especially made for the Royal Family. It also features leather products with exhilarating contemporary designs.
