The beautiful countryside of New Hampshire is one of my favorite places to visit. The foliage in New England is known the world over. The bright red, orange and yellow leaves on the trees change in the fall from their summer outfits of green. New Hampshire enjoys all four seasons and in the winter there are ski slopes and trails for cross country skis or snow shoes. On this page I will be concentrating on family fun spots in New Hampshire for summer and fall. I live in New Hampshires neighboring state of Maine, but love the rural farm areas of New Hampshire even more than coastal Maine. New Hampshire has a lot of different land areas to enjoy, such as mountains, lakes, rural areas and coast. The capital of New Hampshire is Concord in the lower, middle section. Just north of Concord is a little rural town called Canterbury, with lots of dirt roads that I love. There is a Shaker Village there that serves home made meals.

Cornish-Beautiful Town and Home of Longest Covered Bridge

This is Such a Pretty Town (Picture is of St. Gaudens Historical Center)

Established in 1763, the town was once known as Mast Camp, because it was the shipping point for the tall masts floated down the river by the English. It was named for Sir Samuel Cornish, a distinguished admiral of the Royal Navy. Cornish is now a well-known summer resort for artists and writers, with residents including Maxfield Parish and Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Cornish is the site of the longest wooden covered bridge in the United States and the longest two span covered bridge in the world. The Cornish-Windsor Bridge, which spans the Connecticut River, was built in 1866 at an original cost of $9,000.

The Saint Gaudens National Historic Site is located in Cornish. I love this place with such beautiful gardens on 150 acres, adorned with the sculptors work. Villages and local places include; Cornish Flat, Cornish Mill, Ballock, Cornish Center, Cornish City, South Cornish, and Squag City.

Cornish is bordered by; Claremont to the south, Plainfield to the north, and Croydon to the east. The Connecticut River borders Cornish to the west.
