Their third NFL Championship title came during the 1938 season when they defeated the Green Bay Packers 23 - 17. The New York Giants won their next NFL Championship 18 years later with the assistance of Hall of Fame players Frank Gifford, Roosevelt Brown and Sam Huff. The Giant's 1958 NFL Championship game lose to the Indianapolis Colts in overtime has been considered one of the more pivotal moments in NFL history by increasing the NFL's acceptance into the American sports culture.

During the 1940s and early 1950s, the New York Giants experienced a few dreadful seasons, player retirements and poor records. In 1973, the Giants racked up only 23 wins in six NFL seasons. The New York Giants moved into their new stadium, the Meadowlands, in New Jersey in 1976. At the beginning of 1979, the New York Giants began building the stepping stones necessary to launch them back as a serious contender in the league. During that same year's draft pick, the Giants chose Phil Simms. Two years later they drafted Lawrence Taylor who ended up earning the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards. For the first time since the early 1960s, the Giants made the Playoffs. After a short-lived strike, the Giants received a new head coach, Bill Parcells. Despite a difficult first year with Parcells, the Giants completed successful records and advanced to several post-season rounds. In 1986, the New York Giants finally won their first NFL Championship since 1956 after they defeated the Denver Broncos 39 - 20 in Super Bowl XXI. During the 2007 season, the New York Giants had the golden opportunity to play the first out of America NFL game in London's Wembley Stadium. The Giants went on to defeat the Miami Dolphins 13-10.
