Who Is Nancy Oram and What Does She Do?

The Squidoo Lensography and Biography of Nancy Oram, soon-to-be Giant Squid, entrepreneur, WAHM, genealogist, Mobile Notary, vintage pattern seller, and most important of all, mother of seven.

I chose this picture because this is how I spend most of my waking hours, in front of a computer screen.

My Lensography

Simply a list of my growing Squidoo lenses.

I discovered Squidoo in March of 2008. I loved it, but I had to research it thoroughly to see if it was worth my time. You see, I had to make money, and no time to waste. I didn't have to make it overnight, but the potential had to be there. From friendly people willing to share I determined this would work--over time and with good quality content. That's for me!

I plan on becoming a Giant Squid September 30, 2008, and have 100 lenses early in 2009. My lenses are detailed and take lots of time to build. I can't seem to do it any other way. Maybe as I build more I'll find shortcuts. I can't wait for the perks (like a template) that come with Giant Squidom. Also, since I have to make my living from home, I look forward to how Squidoo can add to that.

My First Five Lenses

Fun and painful all at the same time.

I chose things I knew about and businesses I was already working from home as the topics of my first lenses.

The Second Five Lenses

Hmmmm, I need new material!

Now I moved into people I knew, hobbies and interests. Well, I think I know Little Lulu, and I used to know Tom Dickson and his whole family really well.

The Third Five Lenses

Wow, 15. Now we're getting serious!

Because of a contest for lenses featuring eBay business, I learned how to drill down deeper into a subject and create multiple lenses that are related, but different.

On to 20 lenses.

More of the same.

And a few more for the contest. . .plus Giant Squid organizers said to make a lensography. Great idea!

The Goal to Become Giant Squid-Worthy

More and more research and learning at Squid U

I'm feeling pressured by the double goal of becoming Giant Squid and making money from all this work. I decided to learn how to make shopping lenses. I'm having fun being the "buyer" for my little niche stores.

More Shopping Lenses, Please.

This is too fun!

I'm trying to set these up quickly enough to make my total of Giant Squid 50 in time for the deadline, but of good enough quality to qualify. I realize I'll need to work on even more content and marketing later.

Just a Few More Shopping Lenses

I'm almost ready to switch gears again

I need to finish what I've started, but then I want to switch to informational lenses again. I have a whole lot of ideas!

Back to Informational Lenses

I'm just a wealth of knowledge!

My recent brainstorm was on diaper rashes. It's a natural after raising seven kids!

Maybe More Genealogy Related Lenses

Genealogy is my passion.

Remembering and sharing interesting stories and discoveries found as a result of researching my genealogy.

Just Five More to 50 and Giant Squid Status

25 Days to the September 30, 2008 Deadline

I think the last five will be holiday-related in some way.
UPDATE: On September 9, 2008 my 50th lens was published. I'm going to keep on going, especially with the holidays approaching.

September is a Good Time to Make More Holiday Lenses

Some informational, some shopping.

I'm in a holiday groove now. I expect these will do even better next year. It's fun to hunt for niches within the holiday theme.

My Favorite Books and Authors

Lenses 56 - 60

I love fiction and nonfiction, from classics to legal thrillers. Here are my top five (for now) modern and classic authors.

More Holiday Lenses

The Holiday Spirit Came Early This Year

I've done my Christmas shopping online for years. I keep finding wonderful things that catch my eye, and since I can't buy them all, I'll just feature them for others to look at.

and so on. . . .

Starting Off This Next Batch With My Hometown - Pleasant Hill, California

Maybe I'll Do Some More Local Areas

I live in the most beautiful area - the San Francisco Bay Area. We have it all here - mild weather, beautiful coasts and mountains. I've literally played at the beach and explored Yosemite National Park all in the same day.

My Family

My Family, My Most Important Accomplishment

Nothing Else Can Compare With Being a Mom

This photo is of me and my latest grandson, Jake. My family's the greatest. I'm so blessed. I'm the mother of seven, grandmother of five. I have five boys and two girls. One daughter is missing from the above photo. She was the victim of an accident in 1992 at the age of 17.

I only have two boys left at home, age 16. They're twins, and we've homeschooled for six years.

Google Nancy - Six Pages and Growing

What Web 2.0 Can Do For You

My mother says she knew I would be an entrepreneur when at the age of six she found me on the front lawn with a card table, selling all my old toys to the neighbor kids.

I started building web pages several years ago. They all need cleaning up, but they're still bringing in business. I really have my finger in too many pies, but it keeps life interesting.

In the days BI (Before Internet) I started a word processing business from home. Going through divorce, I found myself BART-ing to San Francisco as an office administrator for engineering consultants. A second marriage brought the surprise of my life -- twin boys at the age of 41! Back to working from home, and that's when the Internet came into my life.
