The Only Thing that Will Save Us is the Tiny Nanobots!

The purpose of this Nanobots Lens is to spoon-feed you -- little by little a short introduction to nanotechnology as well as ease some possible anxieties about new technology. Especially some technology that is going to have a tremendous and dramatic effect on the future path of humans. Now some of the possible benefits of Nano technology that you didn't know about, will absolutely BLOW YOUR MIND as you'll see!

But of course, I will discuss some knee-jerk reactions from the anti-technology folks who believe in nothing else but bad things happening when a complicated subject that can enhance our lives pops up. And those beliefs of doom is based on nothing but fears of what MAY happen (that and two bucks will still get you a "Tall" cup of coffee at Starbucks).

So let's talk a little about what exactly is Nanotechnology and why it is being talked about at all. Useful nanotechnology by and large hasn't been invented yet. You heard me right, we haven't really tapped upon the vast potential of Nanotechnology yet.

Nano technology is still in the speculative phase but some eggheads may want to point out that we are using Nanotechnology today (So, if you got some good examples, please feel free to include them in your comments at the bottom of this page).

But the most useful applications of Nanotechnology hasn't been invented yet. And yes, I'll tell you WHY the biggest advances for the human race is decades further up the road. If it ever happens...

Useful Nanotechnology, by and large hasn't been invented yet!!

What is Nanotechnology?

Nanotechnology is going to give us abundanceBy now you are probably fidgeting and wondering out aloud, "OK, Matt... tell me exactly what nanotechnology is?"

Ah! Little grasshopper... according to the definition on wiki, "Nanotechnology is the study of the controlling of matter at an atomic or molecular scale." Yes, I can see some of my readers starting to lose a little interest here and their eyes rolling up into their brains... it is a little dry attempt to explain the term.

But here it is... Nanotechnology is all about creating tiny machines at an atomic scale that can do AMAZING THINGS that will end our energy problems, material resource problems and... space travel problems. The BEST of all is that most of these things will be recovered at, near zero costs. YES! YES!! YES!!!

In short, once nanotechnology gets into the full swing and actually is put to work for us... we are going to take the biggest leap forward EVER!!

Do I have your undivided attention now about the enormous potential of Nanobots?

Yes, imagine a future in which energy use isn't a problem. Traveling anywhere on Earth or Space isn't a problem. Food, weather or shelter... isn't a problem.
But (you knew this was coming)... but there is one big problem that can delay or end the unlimited promise of nanotechnology... and that is, SMALL MINDS.

One of my most favorite quotes is from a dude by the name of Albert Einstein. Perhaps you heard of him? He said, "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." And that quote is so appropriate here!

But back to the definition of nanotechnology, imagine inventing tiny, tiny robots that you can't even see, even in a zoom powered microscope, that single mindedly does the task they were invented for that makes your life, much, much easier?

Those tiny machines have a name, in fact several names. Nanobots, nanorobots, nanites, and any other variations you can think of. It all comes down to the same thing... nobody has figured out a way to create nanobots yet to do these things.

And why? Well, keep reading below because I will talk about that...

Nanotechnology is all about creating tiny machines at an atomic scale that can do AMAZING THINGS that will end our energy problems, material resource problems and... space travel problems. Because most of these things will be recovered at near zero costs.

Hide the Women and Children! Nanobots Run Amok!!

(Ahhh! We are All Gonna Die Alert)

I read this book. It was a fun thriller to read if you like to read this kind of stuff. And yeah, I'm sure some folks are going to hang up their fears on this book as the reason why Government should be involved and whatnot... (sigh)

Don't worry, I won't let my readers down here. I will be discussing why the government should stay out of the way of technology below...

"Just as "Jurassic Park" was a cautionary tale for the dangers of tampering with the genetic code, so to is "Prey" a warning. This time, Michael Crichton has chosen to explore the potential and hazards of nanotechnology; the fashioning of robots at the molecular level. The power of these machines is that they are small enough to go anywhere, and their capabilities are limited only by human creativity. However, since they are so small, they need to be able to apply adaptive learning in order to accomplish their assigned tasks, and that's where the trouble starts."

The Future Promise of Nano Technology

The future of Nano Technology is very, very bright... if the government stays out of its way...But of course you want to know what exactly the hullabaloo is all about Nanotechnology? What is so exciting about that and how can it affect me?

The only limitations of what Nanotechnology can do for us is the government and small minds. Unfortunately, it seems that the government tends to get in the way of technological innovations more often than not. And thus, delay the benefits and progress of Nanotechnology.

There is always someone that believes government control over technology is a very good thing because those wacky scientists and soulless businessmen cannot be trusted.

So let me give you an example why trusting the GOVERNMENT IS A VERY BAD IDEA...

The FDA! The Federal Drug and Administration agency. I read from a smart guy by the name of Doug Casey who said it should be renamed the Federal Death Authority. And why, well, that agency is responsible for far more deaths then the Defense Department -- by delaying and making helpful drugs more expensive to make. Did you know that it takes at least 10 years and millions, if not billions of dollars for a Pharmaceutical company to bring a new drug into the market?

Now the FDA says it is there to make sure the drugs are safe for use. But the way the system works today, the snake-oil salesmen from the 19th century probably killed less people per capita than the FDA does. And besides, innovation and technology is supposed to bring the costs DOWN... not up. So obviously, the government adds another layer of administration that just adds costs and time.

The Government delays and adds cost to medical technology because it is more interested in creating layers of administration rather than helping people get miracle drugs sooner and cheaper.

The sooner the government steps aside and lets technology and private businesses do what they are best at, the sooner we are going to be so amazed of what Nanotechnology is going to do for us.

Life is going to be incredible once we harness the limitless powers of the tiny Nanobots.

Nanobots Can Mine Garbage Dumps and Sea Water

Nanotechnology means no more garbageNanotechnology is going to eventually bring the cost of recovering commodities close to zero. We can't run out of natural resources because it is still here!

And if you use the technology to develop Nanobots to extract the commodities, then you truly will have an unlimited source of materials. For example, the sea water is full of dissolved metals and if you have the energy to process all that water... then you can get an unlimited source of precious and base metals that you will ever want or need.

The most valuable land in the world will be what is the least wanted land today. The garbage dumps! We can use Nanotech to invent the nanobots to go in and extract the purified materials such as iron, oil and whatever materials we throw away that can be recycled to be used again.

Nanobots if you aren't too sure by now... operate at the atomic level. There is no waste because they will grab all the atoms in the area that they were designed to extract and pile them up somewhere.

And even those nuclear waste or spent reactor fuel in those toxic and controversial storage areas deep underground in Nevada is going to be prime hunting grounds to recycle and reform the nuclear material to be reused again and again.

So Nanobots are going to make it easier and cheaper to pull out, clean up and create useful commodities for us to reuse. And once you understand the vast potential for Nanotechnology, you are going to understand that our future is going to be so bright... it is going to be so freakin' brilliant!

Nanotechnology is going to eventually bring the cost of recovering commodities close to zero.

Nanotechnology for Space Travel and Energy

Nanotechnology is going to make space travel possibleNanobots are sub-microscopic or atomic sized computers and machines that are built to do the task demanded of them. And they are perfect. Which means they don't have any mechanical imperfections which means of course that they are very extremely efficient and less energy is required to run them.

Which brings up to my favorite topic. Space travel! Nanotechnology will make space travel very, very probable. And because the Nanobots are so energy efficient, the space rockets won't need to take so much fuel up with them to overcome the pull of gravity. Who knows? Perhaps we can fire off a rocket that is as big as those HUGE Saturn V rockets with the engine the size of a coffee pot? Which means these rockets can go faster and longer. And soon we can populate the Moon and nearby planets.

And we could even capture the asteroids and haul them back to Earth for materials. Can you see the potential and possibilities of Nanotech and how it is going to vastly change everything? We can mine all the materials that we want. Heck, I'm sure we can figure out a way to really utilize the awesome power of the sun without all those inefficient solar power panels. The costs of everything will go way down and our standards of living will go up so high. The only question is how high can it go?

Who knows? Perhaps we can fire off a rocket that is as big as those HUGE Saturn V rockets with the engine the size of a coffee pot?

Saving Lives with Nanobots

Saving Lives with NanobotsAnother area that Nanotechnology can make a dramatic difference is in the medical field. Nanobots can be created to enter into your body and fix whatever needs to be fixed. It can repair every single cell in your body. It can prevent the cancer cells from getting a foothold or perhaps even stop them from multiplying. The Nanobots can fix and repair all your tissues for peak health. Imagine living much longer and looking much younger because I'm sure there will be Nanobots that can reverse the effects of aging!

And I'm sure many of you would love this one... how about inventing a Nanobot that removes fat? We will all be skinny, lean and healthy. No more fad diets. No more sweating for hours and hours to the Oldies along with Richard Simmons! You can eat anything you want and never gain a single ounce.

Nanobots can be created to enter into your body and fix whatever needs to be fixed.

Saving Lives with Nanoscience

This is an oldie movie... if Meg Ryan is cute now, she was way cuter back in 1987. But the reason I mentioned this comedy movie was because the premise was that miniaturized vehicles could enter into the blood stream and fix health problems at the sub-microscopic level.

Nanotechnology Applications

Applications of Nanotechnology...Probable Nanotechnology applications:

  • No more danger of running out of metals

  • Can get all the materials we will ever need to do anything

  • Commodities will be very, very cheap

  • Medical applications to be healthier, to live longer and to eliminate cancers

  • Hazardous waste cleanup

  • Recycle spent radioactive metals for reuse

  • Near 100% efficient energy useage which means much less polution

  • No more waste products contaminating the ground waters

  • Space travel!

As you can see, Nanotechnology is going to be the single, biggest thing that ever happened to us!

On one hand, life as you know it will change for the better. On the other hand, there are always road blocks. Primarily from government restricting information or throwing up barriers for technology advances with more and more oversight and regulations that will make you scream in frustration.

Some governments may even want to use Nanotechnology for the sake of military applications or an all out arms war (haven't we had enough of that?). And Nanotechnology in the wrong hands can become more dangerous than nuclear weapons.

My point is, and I always have a point... that keeping Nanotechnology in the hands of the government is a very bad idea. Instead, basic Nanotech information should be widely available and disseminated so that there are more engineers working on solutions that will usher us into an era of abundance and unlimited possibilities.

Nanosuits to Keep You Warmer or Cooler!

Wear Nanosuits and jump wherever you want without fearJust imagine wearing a very thin suit of 5 microns. It is so thin that it is invisible to the naked eye! But it covers your entire body like an extra layer of skin or like a glove. And the major function of these Nanosuits is to keep you warm. So now... you can live comfortably in the coldest parts of the state of Alaska during the deepest winters.

Heck, you could even do crazy things like joining the polar bear club like those two girls did and jump in the frigid waters.

As a disclosure, these girls are NOT wearing much under their bikinis. In short, they are much, much braver and tougher than I will ever be...

But hopefully, you get the point.

And these Nanosuits can also make you cooler too which would allow you to live in the hottest parts of the world with no discomfort at all. This is just one thing that exhibits the power of Nanotechnology and what it can do for us.

Using Nanobots to Invade Earth

Aliens Using Nanobots to Take Over the WorldWhy not?

As we all know... wars and invasions costs a lot of money and lots of lives. And if an alien race mastered space travel to invade Earth, you would think they know a thing or two about using nanotechnology.

Right?

And it would be so much cheaper and easier to drop a few bombs filled with nanobots on Earth to clear it out so the aliens can have the planet all to themselves without the pesky human beings.

So instead of seeing aliens going all out to invade Earth like what happened in the Tom Cruise movie, War of the Worlds... the aliens could just wait and let the nanobots do all the dirty work for them...

I like to think if Robert Heinlein was still alive... he would have written a terrific science fiction book that would have keep us on the edges of our seats about the aliens' use of nanotechnology.

Note: In the latest documentary by Stephen Hawking, he states that Alien life is out there, and humanity should NOT try to contact them because it could spell disaster for the human race.

For a very good reason... these aliens are going to come in massive ships that enables them to travel from far points in outer space. And they are going to want resources to rebuild and establish colonies in whatever planets they find.

That's Earth.

Think about it this way... centuries ago... when we wanted to expand and find new lands to live... what usually happens to the natives? They were mostly eliminated because they were perceived as a nuisance.

That would be how the aliens would most likely see us... a nuisance that needs to be destroyed. And quite frankly, as I said before, if they have the technology to travel from far away... then they most likely have nanotechnology. It would be way easier to drop these tiny robots to separate various components and duplicate themselves to transform Earth into a more environmentally friendly home or easy to harvest resources to load up in the space ship.

There is no need to expose their limited resources and themselves shooting it out with the Earthlings. Just drop the nanobots and come back in a few more months or years after these tiny machines finish the work they were programmed to do.

Easy peasy... just the way Aliens like it.

the only thing i think you didn't really touch on is the way the nanobots could be use by the government or even the average joe if he had the patience and time to constuct a mind controlled state as in G.I.JOE as the Comander Cobra does to his soldiers but i think that maybe with a emp burst that should fix the problem depending on if their fully Ellectronicol or if they have some Biologicaly componets to them

i understand where your comming from. but i still think that nanobots are still way to advanced for our day and age. there are alot of flaws that can and most likely will happen. for one thing the human need for power. what would happen say if the terorists got thier hands on this stuff. altough some of the thing you mentioned are very appealing like the nanosuits. but i feel like earth just cant handle something that powerful. if they truly can clean up dumps, they could also be used to destroy buildings like the white house, cn tower, and eifle tower.

Dude... just over 200 years ago we won our independence from the British. We all had guns back then... now imagine we didn't have guns because we didn't trust ourselves to handle the guns... we would still be a part of the British empire... My point is this... who decides who is qualified to create nanobots? The governments? More people died from the hands of their own government than any other entity. Just food for thought.

    Cheers,

    Matt

Great read! I do think nanotechnology is a huge wave of the future, and has the potential to reform our lives for the better and for the worse. It is a double edged sword, as are most advances. I only hope that we are up to the challenge.

we also have not yet seen the long term effects on workers who are breathing these particles in,lens manufacturers in the optical industry are now using it in hydrophobic coatings, the minute bindings on the coatings have been studied and appear to be resembling Asbestos, its being rolled out far too quickly, more study needs to be done.
