Areas where I'm spending most of my time...
I am the President of the IT consulting company my father founded in 1993. For five years I've had the priceless opportunity to learn how to run a business through firsthand experience. It has been both exciting and humbling.
Highlight:
We made a calculated risk to make some changes in the business. We invested heavily in new talent to expand a line of business. The new business never materialized and the investment placed us in a dire cash flow position.
Although the strategy was proven wrong, the hires were not. The new talent helped refocus our sales efforts and implement stronger financial controls, pulling us back from the edge and setting a foundation for the strong position we are in today.
...Nathan is a bright, yet humble young man that is passionate in every area of life.... (He) is an engaged learner who constantly desires new challenges and opportunities. Nathan made significant changes to the family business, including changing the role of his father (the company founder), demoting some long term employees and promoting some new up and comers. Nathan has set the company on course for growth and success and I'm confident he is ready for the next challenge...

Short North Muay Thai
I'm a student and a teacher of this form of kickboxing that has become a major part of my life. I spend 5 to 6 days a week at the gym doing the most intense workouts you can imagine. My fellow students are amazing and have demonstrated the true power of a passionate community.
Highlight:
After training several hours a day for months for my first competition, the grueling training sessions were taking a toll on my mind and my body. The energy of my Kru and my classmates carried me through those last two weeks and into the competition. The hard work paid off when I went undefeated, winning three matches, and became amateur champion.

Hundreds and hundreds of people walk through the doors of Short North Muay Thai to learn one of the most vicious, brutal, and demanding arts in existence. Very few have what it takes to withstand the taxing and grueling training sessions and even fewer have the make-up to actually step into the ring and put themselves to the ultimate test... the fight. Nathan is one of those few. Nathan has been a student at the school for almost 4 years and in that time has shown nothing but courage, determination and poise . At the school he is a leader and a role model, not only because of his amazing fight record but also because of his quiet confidence, kindness, want to help others, and killer smile that speaks volumes.
As a student he is humble, modest, driven and inspirational. He is a fighter through and through, in and out of the ring. Nathan is one of those rare people you meet and you know -there is nothing they can't do. From a teachers perspective, he is the kind of student we all wish for.

Strike the Match
Strike the Match is my personal blog. I started it in May of 2008 as a way to hold myself accountable to living my extraordinary life, and to hopefully inspire some others along the way. It's taught me how valuable consistently going through the motions is to writing and creating.

Getting a note of appreciation the next day on a post you finished as 12:30 am with half open eyes.
Potential Hot Spots
Opportunities for Change That I Think About...
Education - Kids should feel like education is a privilege, not an obligation. Places like COSI prove that it can be done. We can do better.

Access to Information - Historically, librarians held the keys to the information kingdom but libraries and their systems are quickly becoming irrelevant. By reinventing the way the public interacts with data, we can increase access to that treasure of knowledge.
Formal Education
I was really good at jumping through hoops in college...
Bowling Green State University
BA in Business Administration
Marketing Specialization
University Honors Program Graduate

Nathan was elected to serve on the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity's national board of directors while he was still an undergraduate at Bowling Green. He quickly separated himself from the other undergraduate board members with his ability to see the big picture and by quickly recognizing the great potential of our organization as a way to change people's lives in a positive way. He was a valuable contributor to our board and often challenged other younger board members to help shatter the fraternity Animal House stereotypes. Nathan's ability to see a problem from a different point of view and then articulate that discovery led to many productive and lively conversations about our future. Since his term on the board ended, we have missed Nathan's enthusiasm and his drive for change.

A note from a mentor and friend familiar with my journey
5 years ago, synchronicity "gifted" me with an encounter with Nathan Rodgers. This "All American boy" had been jolted to a new level of consciousness that transformed him into a passionate learner. Today, he sits at a new intersection. Having completely deconstructed the current and past chapters of his life story, Nathan is ready for a new crucible in which he can toast for a time and allow the alchemy of his life to be transformed once again. He has carefully examined the lessons of each chapter in his life and knows, on a deep level, that this is the moment to strike his own match to ignite those life script pages as fuel to discover new horizons, a new life, and a bigger stage. He has prepared exhaustively for this phase of his journey and he is uniquely capable and equipped.
Jung said, "if you come to a cliff - jump." Most balk in fear of cliffs; Nathan has become a veteran jumper. He is hungry for new journey partners with whom he can co-chart a new course.
