Share A Skip Week.....
As if there wasn't enough going on in November...Now we have to share a skip? Good Times.
The first half of November however is ideal, we have, All Hallows Eve just finished, the pagan new year, the first day of winter, Guy Fawkes Night, Remembrance Day and Children in Need, all rolled into the beginning of the month.
During this time, allot goes on, much of which creates a hellova lot of mess. We have the reside of the bonfires, firework disasters, not only from bonfire night but the pagan new year is bought in with bonfires too. Picture the best party, the joy, the laughter, the drinking.....then think about the day after. Oh yes. The headache. The nausea. The huge mess left to clean up!
National Share a Skip Week sponsored by TopSkips.Com promotes energy saving, it encourages more responsible waste disposal, increased recycling and helps prevent those annoying mornings when you find someone else's rubbish dumped in your skip!
As the New Year symbolises new beginnings, so does National Share a Skip Week. It is a symbol for fresh starts, not just by spring cleaning, but with neighbours and friends.
National Share a Skip Week raises the awareness of community spirit, and sharing. Sharing a skip with your neighbours can be an easy, cost effective, solution to your waste management needs!
Celtic New Year
new beginnings.....
Also known as the festival of Samhain marking the end of the harvest season and the end of summer in Gaelic culture, the day also happens to be more well known as; All Hallows, All Hallow's Eve, Hallow E'en or Halloween.Samhain was traditionally celebrated for three days. A bonfire was set alight on a hill, to signal others to gather on their hills, and also light bonfires. As winter was approaching, farmers would take stock of their live stock, and slaughter what needed to survive the cold months ahead. The carcasses would be flung into the bonfire and singing and dancing would take place; thus bonding the families of the village together. The custom has survived and bonfires are lit to this day to participate in the festival, although I'm pretty sure animal bones aren't thrown in.....at least I hope not!
The rubble and waste left after a night of singing and dancing around a bonfire is unsightly. Firework wrappers and drink bottles are scattered around the neighbourhood, and no one to take responsibility.
National Share a Skip Week promotes working together and sharing a skip hire cost to help clean up your area.
Bonfire Night
Remember, Remember, the 5th of November.....
The famous Guy Fawkes had a part in inspiring the creation of National Skip Share Week. For those who are unwise to the atrocious behaviour of this individual, he was one of the conspirers in a plot to assassinate King James I of England, by attempting to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The plot was foiled shortly before its intended completion, and surprise-surprise, the conspirers executed. The 5th of November is now called Guy Fawkes Night, or Bonfire Night and is celebrated with fireworks and bonfires, centred on the plot and Fawkes, around the country.
This celebration creates undue mess and pollution, National Share A Skip Week in the name of community spirit, promotes and easy, cost effective solution to clear up.
