It's Getting Nice and Hot, Get Ready for National Iced Tea Month
The history of Iced tea is said to have started in American and can be traced back to the summer of 1904 at the St Louis World Fair. Black was imported from India, Africa and South America and actually became more popular than green tea at the time. Richard Blechynden, then the India Tea Commissioner, was offering free samples of hot black tea in the Fair's East Indian Pavilion to promote the move toward black tea. It was so hot in the summer that they added ice to the hot post of tea and served them. Iced tea became an all American favorite.
Today the healthy beverage is loved and sold all across the U.S. and because of its popularity, the month of June has been set aside to recognize and celebrate the drink as it exists today. Not only is it cool and refreshing on a hot summer day, but it has many healthy benefits that also come with drinking tea such as antioxidants.
So find recipes and interesting facts about tea and enjoy the dog days of summer with this cool and refreshing beverage.
Tea Diffuser

Norpro Grip-EZ Tea Infuser With Cup

A tea diffuser is for tea that does not come in a pre-packaged tea bag (as Lipton is very well known for. This particular tea diffuser model is pretty simple. You add the dry tea leaves to the center of the diffuser net and sit in a glass. This tea diffuser is mainly used to make a single glass of tea. It is best to add tea to warm the water for any brewing to take place and to add flavor. Depending on how light or strong that you may want to have your tea. It is recommended to wait at least five minutes for the tea to steep in the water. What is very convenient about diffusers that it helps to keep the tea leaves in place so that when it is taken out, the only thing that is left in the glass is the flavor.

Tea Sweeteners
Many people also use honey
- Amino Acids- are compounds that are the building blocks of protein. They help to heal injuries, restore tissues in the body and help with muscle growth.
- Antioxidants- fight free radicals and reverse the signs of aging. This give you a double dose of antioxidants since tea also have antioxidants in it as well.
Even though there are many alternatives to sweetening tea, I strongly recommend using honey because of the healthy benefits that it brings with every sip of tea.

Are there still benefits with Iced Green Tea?
When making green tea, make sure that it is steeped in hot water.
Make sure to steep only a small amount of green tea because of the fact that its antioxidant benefits are better when it is taken in the body after making it.
When the tea is hot, you benefit most because the antioxidants are very high and active as well as it is better to smell the aroma of the tea and find out how flavorful it is. But when it is a hot day, putting green tea on ice is still a good alternative to drinking green tea and providing antioxidants that are still helpful to the body.
