Old Market District: Where history meets the arts! Brick streets, Old brick buildings which now house artist galleries, restaurants, leather shops, ice cream parlors, and even a year round Christmas shop! Horse drawn Carriages available. Places and Restaurants only the Omaha locals know about!
Different people like different foods, so here are a few listings that I personally like, but the borchures and most travel agencies don't tell you about. SHHHHAPLINE INN
10405 Calhoun Rd
Omaha, NE 68112
402-457-9988
This place gets mixed reviews, but the locals LOVE it. If you like fried chicken and/or shrimp, this is the place to go. There is not much else on the menu except a couple of sandwhiches, burgers, etc.) Downsides: looks like a small shack from the outside. Small on the inside
Upside: Good food, and a huge window to watch the animals (racoons, cats, occasionally bigger animals) eat the chicken bones that were left by customers (Now THAT is recycling!) Super friendly staff. It is a restaurant and bar.
EL ALAMO:
4917 So. 24
Omaha, NE 68107 (On 24th between N and O streets)
If you like Mexican food, you will LOVE this place. As close to Mexican food as I've tasted in a while. Huge amount of food for the money. Friendly staff. Park around back, it is almost impossible to find parking on So. 24th St. sometimes.
LINOMA BEACH:
17106 So. 255 Street
Gretna Ne 68028
Not only is it a lake, beach and campground, it is a National Historic Landmark. Check out their link

GORATS Restaurant
4917 Center Street
Omaha, NE 68106
402-551-3733
One of the finest, oldest and most respected establishments in Omaha. Been at same location for 60 years. ALL of the locals know about it. Noted for their great steaks. In fact, their Motto, which also was established in 1944 is "Worlds Finest Steaks" This place is usually crowded too, so you may want to call ahead. Altough it is a favorite of Warren Buffet, the dress is pretty casual. Prices are not bad either.
SPAGHETTI WORKS:
502 So. 11th St.
Omaha, NE 68102
402-422-0770
Again, a long established eatery. Over 30 years of service. There are several locations but my favorite (because of the ambiance) is the Old Market. All you can eat pasta and salad starting at only $4.99. Build your salad out of a Model T truck! Gotta go here! Plus it's in the Old Market!
Authors Note: The above are NOT paid advertising. I really do plan itineraries and I want to make sure you enjoy your stay in Omaha, and all of Nebraska!
