Lanyards

Yea its the thing we never know what to call but we probably use or see them more often than we think. You may not realize this but lanyards were first used in the military, then in a lot of retail stores and now they are used all over the place. Its funny how often we see them and yet how little we use them individually. It depends on your profession but most people don't see lanyards on a daily basis.

Military Customized Lanyards

So here is the proof, lanyards were originally used in the military to attach everything from guns to swords to a soldiers belt - making sure they didn't fall off during battle. I guess that makes sense, I'm sure you have had experiences walking around in a park or on the streets and wished you could not be carrying something. In addition to carrying the soldiers weapons lanyards were braided to attach to the shoulder of the soldier identifying his rank and stature. The  customized lanyards of today have come a long way from their primitive origins.

Retail Lanyards, well if you can call the gym retail

Every wish you could just rip your elementary gym teachers whistle right off his neck and shove it down his....okay well you get the idea. Its called a lanyard and its what he used to carry that silver piece of audible torture. I know for me at least, every time I heard a coach or teacher blowing a whistle it made me mad.

So aside from the gym you may also notice lanyards in any one of the retail outlets you frequent. They come in handy to use as identity badges while at the same time reminding the employees they are at work. I know when my wife worked retail she often commented on how she felt naked and unprepared if she didn't have her, oh whats that damn thing called...a lanyard.

Why Use a Lanyard

The question is how can a lanyard benefit me? The answer is simple, do you perform a function hat requires you to gain the trust and confidence of a prospective client, be that in a retail store or selling cars - if you need customer approval, you need a lanyard. The reason is simple, we have grown up in a society that associates trust with visible quantifiable certifications.

If you were pulled over by an unmarked vehicle, or if a man dressed in a suit came to your door asking if you know the where-abouts of so and so, what would be your first question? Can I see your badge? Right? If not it should be. So the lanyard performs a similar function but without the person having to ask. There you are, there they are and your lanyard is in clear view, identifying who you are, and if customized properly, who you work for.

We all know gaining that customer trust can be really hard, but once you have it the sale is yours.

I actually really like creating squids. I hope someday I can think of one everyone likes, that no one else has made.
