- I appreciate this tribute to an extraordinary leader. It is nearly impossible to fathom all that Nelson Mandela and his family endured. And, of course, I think of all who have been hurt or destroyed by Apartheid. Those of us who were not born into such a cruel and unjust system have no way of truly knowing the kind of pain wrought by it.
