The government began controlling every aspect of life when they started offering liar loans and created the housing bubble under REPUBLICANS. The Republicans and Greenspan destabilized the financial system. They encouraged overleveraging, which enabled investment banks and hedge funds to bypass the 50 percent margin call requirements, down payment requirements, etc. driving up the prices of commodities, stocks, bonds, and homes.
In order to fix it the REPUBLICANS have used government taxpayer funds to purchase a stake in the risky banks, hoping the economy will turn around. The difference between the Republicans and Obama is that the Republicans think that bailing out the rich alone will fix things. They don't realize that if you don't put money into the hands of the middle class, this rich man's bail out by the Republicans will be useless.

Republicans must take personal responsibility for the financial meltdown, Katrina victims and the Iraq massive failure. Don't look away and blame others as usual, look inside.

I had a hard time picking sides on this argument because I want both things: change + personal responsibility and respect to the Constitution. I don't believe that we've been true to the document that is supposed to be running the country, and I think both the Republican side and the Democrat side are filled with pompous bigots that would sooner eat a live puppy without eating utensils than give up an ounce of power or take a fraction of a fraction of an inch backwards even if it was for the better of the people.
@Lenin- Socialism tends to mean gradual change nowadays. If Obama is Marxist, America won't be communist by the end of his term(s, but hopefully not). We'll see many other Socialist candidates making gradual changes over time; enough to satisfy his "change" slogan (in some ways, like Obamacare), but not enough to spark rallies that could harm their plans (supposedly).
@margodiva- Libya, Libya, Libya, and wars are NEVER as short as they say they will be. If some US ship sinks because it's hit by a Libyan missile, we're in for the long haul.
@John Mc- Bush seemed pretty Liberal, besides the war (but even JFK had Bay of Pigs). It seems like both sides suck something serious. I'd say vote Libertarian, but it seems like everyone who makes any headway in politics has to be corrupt somehow.

Election '08: Democrats' reintroduction of militant Michelle Obama in Denver was supposed to show her softer side. But it only highlighted a radical part of her resume: Public Allies.Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, "Universal Voluntary Public Service."
Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they'll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of "social change."
The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn't seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year "community leadership" positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They'll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats.
In exchange, they'll get a monthly stipend of up to $1,800, plus paid health and child care. They also get a post-service education award of $4,725 that can be used to pay off past student loans or fund future education.
But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about "social change" through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation - the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul "The Red" Alinsky.
"Our alumni are more than twice as likely as 18-34 year olds to . . . engage in protest activities," Public Allies boasts in a document found with its tax filings. It has already deployed an army of 2,200 community organizers like Obama to agitate for "justice" and "equality" in his hometown of Chicago and other U.S. cities, including Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Washington. "I get to practice being an activist," and get paid for it, gushed Cincinnati recruit Amy Vincent.
Public Allies promotes "diversity and inclusion," a program paper says. More than 70% of its recruits are "people of color." When they're not protesting, they're staffing AIDS clinics, handing out condoms, bailing criminals out of jail and helping illegal aliens and the homeless obtain food stamps and other welfare.
Public Allies brags that more than 80% of graduates have continued working in nonprofit or government jobs. It's training the "next generation of nonprofit leaders" - future "social entrepreneurs."
The Obamas discourage work in the private sector. "Don't go into corporate America," Michelle has exhorted youth. "Work for the community. Be social workers." Shun the "money culture", Barack added. "Individual salvation depends on collective salvation".
"If you commit to serving your community," he pledged in his Denver acceptance speech, "we will make sure you can afford a college education." So, go through government to go to college, and then go back into government.
Many of today's youth find the pitch attractive. "I may spend the rest of my life trying to create social movement," said Brian Coovert of the Cincinnati chapter. "There is always going to be work to do. Until we have a perfect country, I'll have a job."
Not all the recruits appreciate the PC indoctrination. "It was too touchy-feely," said Nelly Nieblas, 29, of the 2005 Los Angeles class. "It's a lot of talk about race, a lot of talk about sexism, a lot of talk about homophobia, talk about -isms and phobias."
One of those -isms is "heterosexism," which a Public Allies training seminar in Chicago describes as a negative byproduct of "capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and male-dominated privilege."
The government now funds about half of Public Allies' expenses through Clinton's AmeriCorps. Obama wants to fully fund it and expand it into a national program that some see costing $500 billion. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the military, he said.

- I agree with Keyes; America is in some sort of denial of consequences in thinking we can invent money from debt and give more power to the federal reserve over national value by bankrupting our future worth and going communistic to preserve those in power.
Obama seems to be being played by every money concern in this country to absorb their debt and shift it on to the backs of Americans. He is so egocentric that they seem to be able to fain economic losses and he rides in with our check book and hands them billions as they laugh all the way to their imperial safety nets off shore and in foreign banks with the cash.
Obama and the Pelosi/Reed leadership have sold out America for a chance at power by selling out the future into unmanageable debt and welcomed in the cloud of socialism and its exploitation with its corruption of value at the expense of everyone's liberty.

- Saul Alinsky was one of my heroes and so is Barack Obama. I wore out a pair of shoes canvassing for Barack, so I'm thrilled to see community organizing come into its own. Whether Barack will be the great president he potentially is, only time will tell. I expect the Prophets of Doom like Jana to be proven wrong.

- I think NOW, one month (is that ALL?) into the new Administration some of these folks may be re-thinking their comments. HINT: Watch the "talking-heads" on the Financial networks who so favored the coming "progressive" administration: they are getting a deer-caught-in-the-headlights look as they continue to defend this rapid one-way, runaway Socialist Express Train. It's not just the new President. It's a total breakdown of Constitutional Government. It's a coup. It's over - it's done - Now we Americans will reap our harvest. I bear Mr. Obama no personal animus: "You get what you pay for."

Pentagon Plan: Deploy U.S. military to "protect" citizens
The Pentagon has released a plan to use over 20,000 uniformed troops for "domestic security"
The Posse Comitatus Act, passed in 1878, forbids the use of U.S. military forces for domestic security and law enforcement purposes.
Current Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, who will remain part of the Obama Administration, has expressed support for the plan, which is currently under going cost review by the Pentagon.

The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.
The long-planned shift in the Defense Department's role in homeland security was recently backed with funding and troop commitments after years of prodding by Congress and outside experts, defense analysts said.
There are critics of the change, in the military and among civil liberties groups and libertarians who express concern that the new homeland emphasis threatens to strain the military and possibly undermine the Posse Comitatus Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military's role in domestic law enforcement.
But the Bush administration and some in Congress have pushed for a heightened homeland military role since the middle of this decade, saying the greatest domestic threat is terrorists exploiting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, dedicating 20,000 troops to domestic response -- a nearly sevenfold increase in five years -- "would have been extraordinary to the point of unbelievable," Paul McHale, assistant defense secretary for homeland defense, said in remarks last month at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

The Pentagon's plan calls for three rapid-reaction forces to be ready for emergency response by September 2011. The first 4,700-person unit, built around an active-duty combat brigade based at Fort Stewart, Ga., was available as of Oct. 1, said Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr., commander of the U.S. Northern Command.
If funding continues, two additional teams will join nearly 80 smaller National Guard and reserve units made up of about 6,000 troops in supporting local and state officials nationwide. All would be trained to respond to a domestic chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or high-yield explosive attack, or CBRNE event, as the military calls it.

Nostradamus - Obama One-Term President

The Seer Extraordinaire was able to accomplish, nearly five centuries ago, what modern-day political pundits were unable to do even five short years ago. In so doing, Nostradamus turned die-hard doubters into true believers. The same ones who used to thumb their noses at his predictions are now thumbing through his quatrains, in search of further enlightenment, as in this prophetic verse:
"The great empire each year shall have more strife,
One above all others will the power obtain:
But short will be his reign and life,
Two years on stormy seas will he be able to sustain." - Nostradamus
What it says, in a nutshell, is that Barack Obama is destined be a one-term president. It is not hard to fathom why.
On his hyper-extended campaign trail, Barack made more promises than any mere mortal could ever possibly hope to keep. Now, he is seen as going back on his word, in effect, breaking his contract with America.
For instance, on the stump, he vowed to quickly shut down the "Gitmo Gulag." But, as it turns out, storming the American Bastille is a task more easily said than done.
He also pledged to end the Pentagon's precipitous preemptions and return the troops immediately. But, in the case of Iraq, he not only deferred the draw-down by several years, he has authorized a permanent occupation force to remain behind indefinitely, if not longer.
As for Afghanistan, he has already committed additional ground forces to that potential powder keg. Our continued presence on sacred soil only serves to further infuriate and embolden our sworn "Axis of Oil" enemies.
Even Vice President Joe Biden freely admits that President Obama is certain to be tested. A 9/11 event, Heaven forbid, would convince soccer moms that a Democratic president is not up to the task of protecting the homeland, driving the final nail into his campaign coffers.
Nostradamus used his prodigious prophetic powers to read the political tea leaves, but it does not require a crystal ball to read the writing on the wailing wall. Given the dire straits that he inherited, voters were more than willing to give their Anointed One a honeymoon in the White House. But if Barack Obama fails to deliver on his copious campaign promises, it is highly doubtful that they will deign to grant their Second Coming a second honeymoon in the Oval Office.
