Why Network Marketers Need to Learn Sales Skills

If you're considering joining a network marketing team, or even if you've been part of a network marketing company for a while, but you're not reaching your goals, you probably know that network marketing means selling products and recruiting distributors.

Have you ever wondered how it can be called "network marketing," involve sales and recruiting, and "not require any selling"? Isn't that interesting? It sounds almost too good to be true, doesn't it? A great career, a business of your own, with no selling? Don't be duped yourself into thinking you can succeed without fist learning how to build a list.

Millions of people sign up for network marketing distributorships, continue to believe they don't have to learn sales or do any selling, and eventually drop out, disenchanted. But other people do really well in network marketing, and rise high in the ranks of their company. How do they do it?

They either know how to sell, or they learn how. And the first thing they learn is that it's okay to sell someone something they want. This is important. People often think of "selling" as a dirty job, as conning someone, as pushing people into buying what they don't want. But that's not what selling should be.

Good salespeople find out what their prospects want, and help them get it. As a network marketing distributor, if you discover that the person you're talking to would not benefit from your product, you don't want them to buy it. Right?

But when you talk to someone who has a need, and understands how your product could help them, don't you want them to have it? You want to sell it to them, right? And they want you to help them buy it. They don't want to be "sold." They don't want to be pushed into buying something they don't need, don't want, can't afford.

But that's not real sales. When you study sales books and videos, and really understand selling, you will realize that selling is helping someone get what they need. And one important factor is knowing how to close a sale. It can be as simple as saying something like, "Do you want to get on autoship, or just buy one month's supply for now?" You don't have to push.

But if you make your presentation and then wait for the person to say, "Okay, I'll buy it," you'll probably lose the sale. Because they expect you to ask them to buy. In fact, if you don't, they may be disappointed that they didn't get an opportunity to buy from you. "I would have bought if they'd given me a chance," they may think.

This is why you have to learn sales skills, and particularly, you have to learn to give people the opportunity to buy. You have to ask them to buy, so that they can benefit from what you're offering. They can always say no when you ask, but if you don't know how to make the offer, they can't accept it.

Study sales. Learn to make good offers. You'll be amazed at how much your network marketing profits improve, and how grateful your customers are that you found them when they needed your product, and allowed them to buy it from you.
