New Jersey, also known as NJ or Jersey!

New Jersey is a small state, but it's got big character. It boasts a great shore line with many Jersey Shore Beaches. Whether you like a laid back beach, a hopping good time with amusements or a boardwalk, there's plenty of choice.

New Jersey is also a big player in the sports arena. We have the New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey Nets. We also HOST the NY Giants and NY Jets on our Jersey soil.

The gorgeous Garden State is more than what people saw on The Sopranos. It's farms and suburbs. It's winding, back country roads in Warren County, as well as a busy capital in Trenton. New Jersey is not just one thing, it's a bountiful of fun, beauty and personality. We boast Six Flags (Great Adventure), along with many other great parks and things to do.

There's a huge assortment of state and county parks. There's recreation areas, trails and more. There's great food and community....and there's diners; plenty of them!

Tell me More about New Jersey

Don't know much about history, but I know where the food is good....

State Flower? Not sure, I'd have to look it up.
Best pizza or a great place to eat? Oh sure, I can help you there!

New Jersey is well known for their Diners. In fact, there was an entire episode of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" dedicated to our fine state. You may not find Diners all over, but you'll certainly find them in New Jersey. These "huge variety menus", good food, and familiar looking units (usually bearing lots of chrome type outside) are usually great family restaurants that offer value and stick to the ribs food!

Think you know about New Jersey? Read up and see what you didn't know! New Jersey just might surprise you with some neat little facts!

New Jersey () is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It is bordered on the northeast by New York, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania and on the southwest by Delaware. New Jersey lies largely within the sprawling metropolitan areas of New York and Philadelphia. It is the most densely populated state in the United States.

Inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, the first European settlements in the area were established by the Swedes and Dutch in the early 1600s.NJ History Outline The English later seized control of the region, naming it the Province of New Jersey, which was granted to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton as a colony. At this time, the name was taken from the largest of the British Channel Islands, Jersey. New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War. In the 19th century, factories in cities such as Paterson and Trenton helped to drive the Industrial Revolution. New Jersey's position at the center of the Northeast megalopolis, between Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., fueled its rapid growth through the suburban boom of the 1950s and beyond. Today, New Jersey has the highest population density and the second highest median income of any state in the United States. Only Maryland has a higher median income. The Governor-Elect of New Jersey is Republican Chris Christie.

North Jersey? The Soprano State?

Yeah, I Guess We Have to Go There

I think I'm the only person in America who hasn't watched the Sopranos. It was a massive hit, and subscriptions to HBO shot through the roof as people ordered in masses to see it! I know (I worked at the cable company during that time!)...we had a full size cut-out of Tony Soprano in the lobby and EVERYBODY wanted it, and many offered to buy it!

Just saying, that little slice of Jersey you're seeing, it's maybe 5% of the state. The rest is suburbs and farms, and colleges, and more suburbs! It's not all city.

North Jersey or South Jersey? Who's Your Team?

Are you a Giants fan or an Eagles fan? It says a lot

New Jersey people are a state divided. We're not sure where North Jersey starts, or South Jersey starts. Don't get me wrong, I know...it's just that everyone doesn't agree with everyone else! We all have our own ideas.

An easy thing to tell if someone is from North or South Jersey is usually by their choice of their favorite football team.

If they are Giants fans, they're North...Eagles fans...they're south. The thing is, New Jersey is really two giant suburbs. North Jersey a suburb of New York, where as south Jersey is a suburb of Philly. You relate to one or the other, rarely both!

My husband is a Jets fan (the poor guy), and that's a rarity in itself...hahahahaha

Okay, seriously now....North Jersey (Giants), South Jersey (Eagles), unless you're a transplant like me. I grew up in the suburbs of Philly, so I grew up being an Eagles fan. That's a little out of place in my North Jersey hometown! Don't worry, Jersey girls can hold their own! ;)

OH! And what's with the NY Jets and NY Giants playing on Jersey soil, but not calling themselves NJ? Yeah, what's THAT ABOUT?

When it comes to hockey, the same thing can be said. While we have our own team New Jersey Devils, some of the South Jersey folk are dedicated to the Philadelphia Flyers. Just a location thing...

Take the PATH Train

Nearby to New York City

Park your car in Hoboken and take the PATH train to the city. Being close to New York City, it's easy to head over to see a Broadway show, or eat at one of the many restaurants that feature every kind of food you can think of. Maybe you'd like to take in a show at Madison Square Garden. Either way, it's nearby!
