Ungracious in Victory

I am appalled at the number of Giants fans who are ungracious in victory. If I have to hear one more peep from someone complaining that Coach Bill Belicheck left the game with ONE SECOND remaining on the clock (which was added AFTER he was leaving the field) I think I'll scream.

Please do not misunderstand my rantings. I think the Giants played a great game, they outplayed the Pats - that was clear to anyone who watched the game, but to be frank about it - unlike what New York fans think THEY ARE NOT A BETTER TEAM THAN THE PATRIOTS.

About the Giants

The New York Giants are a professional American football team based in the New York City metropolitan area. The team is headquartered, trains, and plays its home games at Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in the suburb of East Rutherford, New Jersey. They are currently members of the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Giants were one of five teams that joined the NFL in 1925, but the only one admitted that year which still exists.

The Giants have won a total of six NFL titles—four in the pre Super Bowl era (1927, 1934, 1938, 1956) and two since the advent of the Super Bowl (Super Bowls XXI and XXV). During their history the Giants have featured 15 Hall of Fame players, including NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award winners Mel Hein, Frank Gifford, Charlie Conerly, Y. A. Tittle, and Lawrence Taylor.

To distinguish itself from the professional baseball team of the same name, the football team was referred to as the New York Football Giants. Although the baseball team moved to San Francisco in 1957, the football team continues to use "New York Football Giants" as its legal corporate name. The team has also gained several nicknames, including "Big Blue", the "G-men", the "Big Blue Wrecking Crew", the "Jersey Giants", and the "Jints", a name seen frequently in the New York Post, originating from the baseball team when they were based in New York.

New York Giants History

The 1927 season was a very successful one for the New York Giants, who finished 11-1-1.The Giants won 13-7 in what Steve Owen called, "the toughest, roughest football game I ever played." Following the 1953 season, an important transition in Giants history occurred. The Giants went 7-5 in 1954 under Howell. The Giants won their fourth NFL Championship in 1956. Playing their home games at Yankee Stadium for the first time, the Giants won the Eastern Division with an 8-3-1 record. The Giants had another successful year in 1958. The Giants success continued in the 1960s. The Giants defense held the Bears in check, but they lost 14-10, their third straight NFL Championship Game defeat.

The Giants finished 6-8 in the 1969 season. Tarkenton had his best season as a Giant and made the Pro Bowl. In the strike shortened 1982 season, the Giants lost their first two games before the strike and after first game upon returning. Simms threw for 4,044 yards, making him the first Giant to pass for 4,000 yards in a season.

Though Brown led the Giants to wins in their first three games of the season, the Giants lost their next seven games. In 1995 the Giants regressed and finished the season with a 5-11 record. The Giants suffered through another poor season in 1996, finishing 6-10. The Giants experienced a resurgent season, finishing 10-5-1, and qualifying for the playoffs. Following the season George Young left the Giants. The Giants regressed to an 8-8 record in 1998.Before the 1999 season, the Giants signed quarterback Kerry Collins. The Giants won their first playoff game against the Eagles 20-10, and then defeated the Vikings 41-0 in the NFC Championship game.
