Who are the NY Mets?

2007 Season
The 2007 season began with an older and untested team. While veterans like Tom Glavine led the pack in pitching, his health and age were a concern throughout the entirety of the season. The same could be said for secondary veteran pitcher Orlando Hernandez. Even though David Wright managed a historic 26-game hitting streak that stretched from the end of the 2006 season into the 2007 season, the Atlanta Braves maintained an early season first-place lead. Injuries and losing streaks plagued the beginning of the season, and it was not until toward the end of the season that the New York Mets began to break the chains that were holding them back and string together winning games into streaks that landed them their bid for first place in the East.
The end of the season came with a flurry of excitement for both Mets and Phillies fans. The standings were nearly tied, and were all tied up by the last game of the season. The last series of games for the two would decide the winner and playoff berth, with the loser failing to make the playoffs. The New York Mets could not manage to beat the struggling Florida Marlins, and dropped the last games with disappointing losses, capping what would become an almost-historically bad finish. The Mets season ended with the loss of veteran pitcher Tom Glavine, who opted to go back to his former team, the Atlanta Braves. The Mets have their work cut out for them in the 2008 season, but anything is possible in baseball. As the great Yogi Berra once said, in baseball "%u2026it ain't over till it's over."
