Meet Foxy

My husband Jim and I had the most noble reason for getting a new kitty...or so we thought.

Our paralyzed Belgium Sheep Dog, Isabel, is...well...paralyzed, and it does not seem right to us that she should be alone. Since Jim and I are still working, she has to spend long hours alone.

Of course right now she is kept company by our precious dog Abigail. But Abigail is very old and is getting older by the day. She has so many things wrong with her and it is obvious that she will not be with us much longer.

So we cleverly thought that we would get a kitty, to become Isabel's new best friend. A puppy would not do since the puppy would take the attention away from Bell and would require all the effort that goes into training and socializing a puppy. Anyway you look at it, Bell would take a back seat and that is NOT the plan.

So a kitten is the perfect answer. She will be her new friend, she requires no training, she will not take the attention away from Isabel. And Bell will not be alone.

So we got a new kitty, Foxy...

Then we stopped kidding ourselves

Foxy Doesn't Even Give Isabel the Time of Day

Well, now let's be fair, Foxy is a Cat. She is VERY cool. And can not be bothered by a crazed - over excited - paralyzed dog.

Oh sure, she is delightful to us. We love her dearly. She has become everything you could ask for in a cat. She is active, playful, funny, loving, soothing, entertaining and of course she is quite beautiful. But...

She doesn't care about Isabel. What are we to do?

She Had a Rough Start

Little Foxy was a rescued kitty. She was a barn kitty. On her own as a baby. She was resuced by a friend of ours that has a feral cat rescue in Oakland Country here in Michigan, USA.

We are estimating that she is about 4 months old. When Darlene first rescued her she was full of worms and had such bad ear mites that she had scratched all the hair off the back of her ears. You can see her hair loss in this photo.

But do you see the color of her coat. She is black with a gray undercoat and a beautiful warm rusty color twirled throughout, especially in her tail which looks just like a Fox's tail.

Hey! What a great name!

She Already Loves Her Daddy

We believe she was abandoned AFTER she had been owned by someone for awhile. She is far too tame. She is very socialized. She loves being touched, held and played with. A wild feral abandoned cat would not have these great desired qualities.

She plays constantly. Dashing around, climbing, jumping, sprinting and then she screeches to a halt and starts bathing herself. It's dirty work but someone has to do it.

Her favorite place is her daddy's lap. Curled into a ball with her head cupped into his hand. Really amazing.

Yes....I am the one creating this beautiful lens for her...But she prefers her daddy.

Really I don't mind...really...I mean it....stop looking at me.

No seriously, I just love her so much. She couldn't be better.

Day One With Us

This was coming home day.

From the very first hour she was our precious little girl.

Couldn't be better.

Right After Surgery

Whoever had to start her IV, was really insecure. They shaved her entire little arm.

And they shaved her entire abdomen, the whole thing!

Overkill I'd say, wouldn't you?

She Loves Hands

This is another shot of the day she came home.

You can sort of see her naked little tummy after surgery.

She was even cute naked.

You must Spay or Neuter Your Pet

Every animal is deserving of a happy loving home

But there are too many unloved animals out there

Please spay orneuter your animals

Of course, She is Well Now

Her rescue Mama, Darlene, had her fully treated. She got rid of the worms and the ear mites and she was spayed and vaccinated. She is as good as new. We are so grateful to Darlene,

The ragged little muffin, is now able to recover fully. She is very busy growing her beautiful new coat and filling in the holes. Behind the ears, her shaved tummy and her shaved front leg from where the IV was. Boy she has a lot of work to do. But I think she is up to it.

She Meets Jacob

Jacob is our parrot. Jacob is a black capped caique. He is only eleven inches long from tail to tip, but he has no idea he is so small. He has a very large personality. So naturally he is king of the roost.

Someone forgot to tell Foxy.

She thinks he is her play toy. She loves him. She spends a lot of time staring at him. I'm sure her thoughts are pure and not "they say parrot tastes like chicken"

Jacob is so NOT intimidated. He gives her all kinds of trouble, not even letting her touch his cage. She is very content to just sit and watch.

Naturally we will never let them meet without bars between them. It's just not...well...natural.

"Just like chicken"

"yum!" She seems to be saying.
I am sure she just wants to be friends

She Is Home And She is Happy

Foxy is very happy in her new home. She is content and settled in completely.

She loves her toys, her surroundings and her laps to sit in.

She eats from morning till night. Occasionally taking a swim in her water bowl. Then just for good measure she lays in her litter while she is wet and then walks about my living room sharing her litter with all.

She is a princess and we love her!

Don't Worry! All Will Be Well With Isabel

Just a last word about Isabel and Foxy.

Foxy does not dislike Isabel, I don't think she is capable of disliking anyone. She is very special that way.

Isabel is very energetic and she is over exuberant. Foxy doesn't know what to do with her.

What we have done is put Isabel and Foxy together in a controlled setting so Isabel can't frighten Foxy and Foxy must allow Isabel to smell and kiss her.

It has worked well. They are now used to each other smells and some of the newness has worn off.

It is still not best friends...

But it is far off from enemies.

They are making progress, I will keep this lens updated and let you know how it goes.

Foxy is now 6 months old!

She has turned into the most beautiful kitty, and yes! I am prejudiced. She has put on weight so her face is filled out and she has the Pillsbury dough boy kind of body that you just want to squeeze.

In the last two months she absolutely lost all her coat. She was naked around her neck, just a few tufts. And she was so thinned out in her body coat that she looked just silly.

Now she has a full, luxurious and thick coat, shinny and healthy.

Her personality is amazing. She is loving and social, frisky and funny. She enjoys being with her people. But most importantly She and Isabel are now best friends.

You may remember my telling you the reason we got her in the first place was to be a companion for our Isabel, once our Abigail was gone. It was a bit of a struggle, but it has come to fruition better than we could ever have dreamed.

It is now one happy household and we are all thrilled, Especially Foxy! No more barn kitty for her.

The following are some current pictures. Enjoy!!

Harmony, the tabby, was not happy when we brought Clifford, a 15-year-old, arthritic buff tabby, home for a short stay that turned into 3-1/2 years. He was a great, old guy who loved everyone, including Harmony. Harmony and I both love this lens!!

Foxy is quite beautiful and very fortunate to have such a loving home. I don't think I have ever seen a cat that looks like she has a mane of hair around her chin like this one. Very pretty. Blessed.

What a great story. Lady Ghost belongs to Daddy too, or should I say he belongs to her. We got her from the Humane Society and when he picked her up she started licking him all over. She tolerates me because I am the feeder human but she loves to cuddle in Daddy's arms.

Hi Susan! Ayesha here from SSS. I love this lens! I have 2 kitties myself that I rescued from the mean streets and I don't know what I would do without them. They are so loving and funny; my fiance gets jealous because in my eyes, my babies can do no wrong. Thanks for the great idea in the SSS Forum. I will definitely be taking advantage of it!
