Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on the 15th of October in Rocken by Lutzen.  He died  the 25th of August in Weimar. His legacy is still very much alive and continues to influence modern thinking. Nietzsche features not only in a lot of critical works but can also be found in various other media types ranging from Ps2 games to movies and music..... listen to Also Sprach Zarathustra by Strauss

Nietzsche adresses the issues of the things we are taught to think of as real values. The human can be so much more than he is today. The way theology dictates parts of our daily lives should be removed altogether. All values derived from it should be reconsidered.

He wrote a lot of great works (best read in German) and I will list a few with a short description of what to expect. Also i will add links to various Nietzsche related topics.

Also Sprach Zarathustra - Thus spoke Zarathustra

Das hauptwerk nietzsches von der idee des übermenschen

"Die Guten mussen die kreuzigen, der sich seine eigne Tugend erfindet! Das ist die Wahrheit."

The dawn of a new race, the race of the supermen. Often people speculate about how Nietzsches works influence Hitler, but considering the fact that Adolf was a devoted Christian he may have gotten his ideas from some other source. Zarathustra/Nietzsche never made any claim that some races could not be Ubermensch. He actually urged everyone to shake of old beliefs and become supermen! The loathing Nietzsche felt for the lower man was more like a combined grand feeling of pity and anger that the stupid majority controls the way of life. The funny thing in the book is that Zarathustra becomes a well-known person in his world and people come to him for guidance and see in him a new leader. Zarathustra never wanted to get such a pseudo-deity-status . This nicely points out the way misguided people tend to follow someone who claims to have or is known to have some otherworldly knowledge. I think that the strongest idea put forward in the book is the fact that Nietzsche in essence sees the human as a strong being as opposed to the church's view. One that is gifted with reason to fight our way to understanding the thing we call life. Advocating common sense should be done and seen more!

"Mit diesen Predigern der Gleichheit will ich nicht vermischt und verwechselt sein. Denn so reder mir die Gerechtigkeit:"Die Menschen sind nicht gleich!"

Der Antichrist - The antichrist

Fluch uber das christentum - curse on christianity - vloek over het christendom

How christian moral values turn the human into a weak being. How the western world has fallen into a state of chronic self-deception...are we really as great as we think or just blind followers of western moral? Why pity is against nature and is ruinous to ones life even though the church claims the opposite. How the church destroyed and perverted the classic world. How 2000 years of christianity helped to shape the world into a place wherein they themselves church plays the biggest roles (great marketing nonetheless, almost Microsoft-like). The ideas cannot be just thought to go away by itself any longer.. and must be actively purged from the mind and everyday life.
Nietzsche's adversity towards the jew is merely a discussion of semantics nowadays. The jew he speaks of in his works is not yet the victim of any war and anti-semitism was a generally accepted critical view. Nietzsche holds the jewish religion as the cradle of christianity so the topic naturally needs to be adressed and not omitted as we tend to do these days.
It's hard for a writer to fight the ideas of the majority of the population but nevertheless a thing that needs to be done. After all ..the really excellent genius is always a minority everywhere.

First appeared as Der Antichrist in 1888

I read the dutch edition: "friedrich nietzsche - de antichrist - de arbeiderspers, amsterdam - 1973

The Antichrist (Great Books in Philosophy)

How the theologists' blood has poisoned everyday life and philosophy. The world twisted and perverted by religion and we naive and blind going along with it. Wondering why we got stuck with the jewish religion and way of life. Is there a cure for the plague called christianity?

Nietzsche and Kubrick - 2001:A Space Odyssey

Nietzsche's view on the becoming of the superman in Sci-Fi

It's no wonder 2001 start out with Richard Strauss' Tone Poem "Also Sprach Zarathustra". Kubrick tells the story of the will to power concept in a sci-fi classic. Ideal for those who don't like books. It is quite a long movie but worthwhile nonetheless.

Man as the link between the ape and superman. The Starchild as the symbol of the state of innocence. It's all in this film.

Nietzsche - Wear it and share it!

I'm not sure how nietzsche would feel about his work being promoted in these ways... but after all he did say he'd never stop his struggle as long as he was able to.
