Do you have cultural conflicts surrounding holidays?

From the lens 'Twas the Night Before Navidad or Christmas?.

It's nearly the Night Before Christmas again. El Nino, the Christ Child, will be ready with presents at midnight and Santa has presents for sleeping children.

My hubby grew up in a family who did not celebrate Christmas, so it took years for him to get used to the idea of leaving the tree up longer than from Christmas Eve until Christmas at noon. That was the hardest thing for me to take; a short-lived tree.

Love the fun twist to classic poem. And I love good Tamales. Wonderful lens! (My security word for this comment is "brilliant"! How cool is that?)

We are learning some Spanish this year through podcasts. We have lots of phrases we can say now and are learning some nouns. I can't wait to read the bilingual version of The Night Before Christmas with my dd. My kiddo will LOVE it!

This is wonderful!!! What a great way to learn a second language! I wonder if there is a audio version so I could get the pronunciation right. Awesome!

We have had a few cultural conflicts in our extended family. Some are not Christians and don't like the emphasis on Christ. Some don't like Santa and don't want him "visiting" their children. It can be difficult, but we all love each other and for the most part, everyone tries to play nice and be respectful of others opinions.
  • Evelyn_Saenz Jan 5, 2010 @ 10:51 am | delete
Now that my children are older the conflicts seem minor . We choose to celebrate depending on who we are with or which country we are in. The more ways to celebrate the better.
  • Sylvestermouse Jan 5, 2010 @ 11:21 am | delete
You are absolutely right!!! It is much easier when your children are not caught in the middle of the "confusion."
