Nikki and Chris in Love - They Have a Girl and a Boy
It's rare to have a baby born face first, but that is just how our Cayden came into this world of ours! A face presentation is when a baby is born with the face looking up and emerging first. A face presentation is considered to be a fetal malpresentation which may require a C-section. Fetal malpresentations occur in 5% of births while 95% of all births are considered to be normal fetal presentations. Cayden's little face was pretty bruised and you can see the loving concern on all our faces in the hospital picture. Would you believe it? I exercised my faith in prayer and we watched as the dramatic bruising faded right in front of us ~ you can imagine how relieved we were! As you can see, Cayden now shows no evidence of his lengthy and traumatic birth. As for Nikki, what a trooper she is!

The Day Aubrey Mae Was Born!
What an exciting time for everyone! A new born baby picture...
We three grandmas were impressed with Nikki, because she didn't yelp, curse, or make lots of noise while she went through labor-pains. She once in awhile would say, "It hurts," in a soft voice. Aubrey waited to be born seconds after midnight on November 28th 2006.Then we seen the look on Chris' face changed to joy instead of concern. Well, done! ~ Needless to say, Cayden's delivery was also challenging with him being born face first, ouch!!Nikki was born in Fargo, North Dakota and so were her two children. She and her family presently live in Ada, Minnesota, and have purchased their own home.

Such a sweet little girl, who knows what she likes and doesn't like.
When Nikki was little she loved to play with dolls. Its no wonder that she is a great mom, its been a desire of her heart.Nikki is a stay at home-mom. I was a stay at home mom, too. With little darlings like this to take care of, staying home is a good idea, if you can. When you have to pay for child-care, gas, work clothes, and lunches it all adds up. Most people are losing more money than it is worth to not stay at home and raise those little ones.
At this point Aubrey was expecting to be the center of the universe, and she was!

Where does time go?
We had a family get together when Uncle Randy & Auntie Karen were in Fargo to see us and Eric Clapton. We stuffed our faces on pizza and a wonderful desert that Nikki made. Chris wasn't done eating, yet!This picture was taken on March 31st of 2007.

Chris and Nikki tied the knot on June 7th 2008. Nikki made all the wedding plans and did a wonderful job. I think all of the family & friends were impressed with this new found talent of hers.Nikki made their wedding cake and made all of the invitations. They were very nice and very professionally done. Nikki has her own artistic talents!

Lynnette & Nikki have known each other since 1992. We moved into the house next door and Lynnette & Nikki have been good friends since. Lynnette was Nikki's 'maid of honor' and looked as beautiful as ever! Lynnette came back from Texas during summer break and stayed at the their home to help with the wedding plans. She was very helpful in her sweet-caring way.Lynnette has always been my all time favorite neighbor since she was about 3 years old. I could tell some funny stories. What character!

Isn't this a beautiful picture of a flower? I told Nikki that she could make cards with her many floral pictures. They would be great to send to loved ones!Nikki took up flute during her grade school years and played in the school bands in Fargo schools. She also took private piano lessons for a few years and did play for recitals. Nikki has a nice singing voice and sang back-up in a band at the church we attended.

Nikki had Aubrey (as an infant) all dressed-up in a swimsuit and grass skirt for the beach adventures that were in store. Aubrey is always dressed up in cute little outfits or costume for the given holiday. It will be interesting to see what she comes up with for Cayden.Nikki is a good mother and spends her time raising her little girl and boy as a stay at home mom!

Such a little cutie-pie! Aubrey has a little baby brother born in May of 09, and she just loves babies! One time I asked her if she's cute and she said, "No, he's cute." Meaning her little brother, Cayden.

Who knew he'd be born face first...
I could hardly wait to this new baby grandson. Good going Chris! Lol!Nikki felt so tired carrying Cayden.
I felt so sorry because her hips ached.

Cayden was born face first, so his face was bruised at birth.
Cayden was 7 pounds 5 ounces and 20 inches at birth. He reminds me of Nikki when she was born a lot. Nikki says he reminds her of a baby picture of Chris. I can see Chris in this sweet little face too. ~ Now that Cayden is older, he looks like Daddy!
When Nikki was giving birth, the doctor told her that the baby was looking right at her and coming out face first. The doctor wanted to do a C Section, but Nikki said, "No." She said that she had to push a lot hard then when she had Aubrey Mae. When Cayden was born, he screamed like crazy, so that must have been very painful for him. He looked like he had been in a prize fight. His upper lip was very swollen and most of his face bruised. I prayed for him as soon as I got to hold him. The next day the nurses, everyone was happy to see a great improvement. Nikki said she could see a big improvement the night of his birth.

Nikki is so sweet that she would...
...help a frog across the road, because Nikki loves animals.
I'm not kidding, she loves animals. She usually has 3-4 dogs and they have pups, 2-3 cats and they kittens kittens. Now, that they live on a farmstead, Chris bought Nikki some baby chicks, so she will have chickens and farm fresh eggs. Sounds nuts doesn't it? ... but she loves animals.
Someday I might make a lens about when I lived on the Saum commune. We had many animals to care for, fields to plant and harvest, pickle and can. There was only one rule there. It was, if you can't carry your own weight, you can leave. I was busy from morning till night and slept very well.

Nikki is holding the tiny new pup in her hand.When Nikki's pets have babies, she is there for them. With some babies not breathing at birth, Nikki has learned to give mouth to mouth resuscitation. She has breathed life into some that made it.

Chris and Nikki felt so bad that Cayden's face was injured during birth from being born face first. We all did. He didn't just cry when he was born, he screamed, but that didn't last too long. Poor little guy! I just hurt for him and for mom and dad. His face healed fast though, and by the time he went home his face was looking very good. ~ Ouch, that had to hurt! * Make a Plan: Prior to baby's arrival, create a list of everything you need to purchase. It will make shopping for baby a breeze and ensure you don't purchase any unnecessary items.* Clear Out: Make room for baby by clearing your home of unused items. A survey found that the average American has 35 unused items in their home with a resale value of $670*!
* Maximize Closet Space: Utilize every inch of your closet by inserting a low hanging closet rod and shelving. A over-the-door shoe rack is a great place to store small baby necessities like lotions, medicines and powders.
* Family Affair: If you already have kids, get them involved in preparing for baby by letting them take part in the organizing and decluttering process. They'll enjoy stepping into the role of the big sibling and will be excited to help prepare for their new little brother or sister!
* "Baby" space: Use a dresser as a changing table by placing a changing pad on top (used dressers average for around $31*). It will give you drawer space to hold extra sheets, blankets, diapers and changing items so that everything is within arms reach.

This picture was taken on the day that Cayden was going home. His face had recovered rapidly, even within an hour after I prayed for him. A nurse came into the room and said that his face was looking so much better, and they could hardly believe it. I can't imagine being born face first, that had to hurt. Nikki and Chris felt so bad, and their faces show it.

- What a lovely story about Nikki, Chris, Aubrey and Cayden. Really enjoyed the photos -- so many excellent ones -- and VERY photographic children! :) I can tell you are a very proud 'Nanna'.
My 3 grandchildren are all boys and growing up too fast. Just watched the oldest one (14, and already taller than Grandma) play baseball and enjoyed seeing what a good hitter he is. His brother is 12 and their cousin is 9. But, I remember the sweet 'baby' faces of all of them. Thanks for sharing your family with me.
