Nintendo Handheld history

Nintendo Handhelds have been in production since the release of the original Gameboy. There has then been an additional 7 handhelds released including the newest edition to the family which is the Nintendo Dsi. The Dsi has only just hit the Europe and US market and has been in Japan from November 2009.

The first and original Nintendo, the Gameboy has sold over 150 million units worldwide and was sold with the famous Tetris as its trade mark game. It is meant to be the most successful handheld console released to date.

The original was followed by another 3 Gameboy upgraded consoles until the birth of the Nintendo DS in 2004, first in Japan and the US then Europe in 2005. One more Gameboy handheld was released in late 2005 called the Gameboy Micro which was to be the last holding the original name. All the models onwards of this have dropped the Gameboy and have been followed by the Nintendo DS Lite and the new Nintendo Dsi. These are known as the DS range.

Nintendo are currently market leaders in the world of portable handheld consoles and are likely to sell an incredible amount of units through out 2009.
