Nintendo Wii Game Console - The Winning Game Solution "Wii" All Have Been Waiting For
The Wii game console has to be the first games console to get you up off your chair and onto your feet.
Wii Sports, the game that comes bundled with the hardware, will have you waiving your arms around, punching your fists and, if you're not careful, bumping into the furniture and falling over your gamer friends.
Nintendos seventh generation gaming console was code named Revolution. It sought to becoming futuristic and including all conveniences like a wireless controller and Wii remote which has three dimensional functions.
The controller also receives messages from the web, because of the built in "wii connect 24"
Slated for release in the US in mid Nov 2006, the Ninetendo Wii won the Game Critics Award for Best of Show and Best Hardware at the E3 2006.
The hardware of the gaming console is state-of-art with the unit being the smallest measuring just 157 mm in height :
The Wii game console will have one SD card slot and two USB ports.
In the front is The loading slot and that accepts 12cm optical discs and 8 cms discs from Nintendo's older console.
Broadway is the name of the wii cpu processor with a 90nm SOI CMOS process. The Memory of the Wii is 1T-SRAM.
The Wii remote has infrared detection and accelerometers that enables positioning in 3D space. That means gamers can use buttons as well as participate in the game using hand gestures.
Bluetooth technology is used to connect to the wii console through the controler. There are umpteen functions like connectivity to other devices, 4KB non volatile memory and an accelerometer, trigger buttons and analog stick.
The Nintendo Wii has 512 MB built-in flash memory that can be expanded using an SD card.
The Wii has four remote controller slots; two USB ports; one sensor bar port;one SD memory slot; four Nintendo game cube controller ports; two Nintendo game cube memory card ports; WiFi 802.11.b/g wireless built in ports.
The world wide web is reached through the usb and wifi to ethernet adapter.
In Japan the console will have DVD -Video capabilities. A Sonic Solutions Cine Player CE DVD Navigator software engine will be used in consoles to be released in 2007 with DVD-Video functions.
The Wii game console has a sensor bar that can be positioned such that the Wii remote can be used as an accurate pointing device from a distance of 5 meters. However the sensor bar¨is sensitive to halogen lights and sunlight affecting its functions.
With 20 games slated for launch all with motion sensor elements the concept isn't a half hearted affair and in our play with Truma Center, Zelda, Under the Knife, Wii Sports and Excite Truck it's clear that the addition of the controller will certainly make for some good gaming fun - especially when it comes to swashbuckling.
The Wii Wi-Fi service will feature a standard interface like Xbox Live. In much the same way as the Nintendo DS hand held does, the Wii utilises a Friend Code system. In this case there is one code for each console.
In this system's current implementation on the DS, each Wi-Fi enabled game carries with it a unique ID called a Friend Code. To play with your friends, you must each register the other's Friend Code in the game. This system has been met with some criticism in comparison to Xbox Live since it does not employ a single unifying Friend Code, and codes must be entered on a game-by-game basis. However the Wii game console has one code for all games.
The console will always be online, even when powered off (standby). This quiet time is used to update games, such as adding new features, characters, and even gifts for you!
Nintendo Wii: It's cheap. It's fun to play and extremely original. It's great to play with in large groups and there are plenty of titles available that don't involve spilling the blood of your peers. A great option for the here-and-now gamer. Ideal for 30-minute lighthearted gaming sessions every now and then. If you don't care about future-proofing and you just want to have some fun, this is for you.
What can I say. So many people I know have bought one, and I never stop hearing how great they are.
Final verdict: Don't go for a PS3. Instead, buy a Wii game console AND an Xbox 360. That way, you spend only a little more than what the PS3 would cost you, but you'll get the full gaming experience. There you have it, that was easy wasn't it?

by: Karen Bennett
Nintendo has announced a new fitness game Wii Fit which is a full on exercise product set to give you more of a workout than Wii Sports, while still retaining all the fun of gaming. Wii Fit will help to keep you physically fit via a dedicated peripheral, a wireless balance board which comes with the game. There are over 40 different activities, including hula hooping, ski jumping and heading soccer balls. The hula hooping consists of, as you'd expect, gyrating your hips with a virtual hoop onscreen and then as the game progresses, characters will throw more hoops for you to catch and rotate as many times as you can until the time runs out.
The skiing game gives you two chances to make the longest jump you can whilst keeping your balance when landing. Players can increase speed by leaning forward, the more you lean the faster you'll go, and upon reaching the jump, you stand up straight ensuring your weight is evenly balanced for a good landing.
For the football game, you will need to balance on the board moving from side to side whilst balls are fired at you to hit back on to the field and avoiding other objects that are thrown at you at the same time.
Training falls into 4 categories: Aerobics, muscle conditioning, yoga and balance games. Players can assign their height to a profile to measure body mass index and Wii fitness age as well as monitor progress and record performance statistics.
The calorie busting fun could appeal to couch potato kids as well a non gamers, perhaps using the Nintendo Wii as a slimming tool which would be a move into the lifestyle category rather than gaming, covering the market from another angle.
Nintendo hasn't given a release date yet for Wii Fit, although its thought to hit the highstreet in early 2008.

The Console Wars Heating Up
by sayed
The most notorious gaming convention of the year took place. Of course I am talking about E3. All the heavy hitters were having press conferences to accentuate their products. Some of these companies entail Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony. Clearly, Microsoft and Nintendo have won the initial console wars with sales exceeding Sony. This is partially due to the fact that people have to take out a loan in order to purchase a PlayStation 3. Another plausible reason is the quality of games on the PS3; the games are lackluster (with the exception of Ninja Gaiden Sigma). On the other end of the spectrum, the Xbox 360 has brilliant games such as Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1and 2, Gears of War, and Lost Planet; conversely, the PS3 has some metrosexual androgynous butt-pirate protagonist named Genji. Gears of War would pulverize Genji with a chainsaw. The Nintendo Wii is more like an exercise program than a legitimate console. The reasons the Wii is selling is because it is the least expensive and it appeals to children. You will feel like watching a Taebo work out video when playing a Wii rather than a video game. Video games are suppose to be an escape from reality; however, they should not be cumbersome and tiring. If your name is Rosie O'Donnell, then the Wii is for you because you will lose a significant amount of weight using a Wii. Wondering what the future hold for the PlayStation 3? Those of you who are wondering if the PS3's demise is inevitable, the answer is no. A myriad of consoles have bizarrely dreadful launch titles, but rebound at a later date. Do not fret if you own a PS3 because help is on the way. Konami, Square-Enix, and Capcom are companies who are spending the big bucks promoting games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13, and Resident Evil 5. The answer to the billion dollar question is YES, YES, YES. There will be hope for the PlayStation 3 because the price will decrease, and the quality will drastically improve. Until then all we can do is just sit and wait.About the Author

The Nintendo Wii gets the thumbs up from women
by K. Bennett
Video games publishers have been working hard to target their games towards women but this has been no easy task. Many women are not interested in shoot-em-ups or violent games and playing meaningless games for hours is not something they have time for. It is said that women play to achieve something and games like sudoku, brain training games and general knowledge games that are easy to pick up and put down do just this by exercising the brain. The revolutionary Nintendo Wii launched in late 2006 has introduced an new concept in video gaming and has seen more and more women getting involved. The physical nature of the game play with the Nintendo Wii has the added appeal of 'achieving something' - maybe the thinking is that you can get fit and lose calories while having fun, and all from the comfort of your front room! It would certainly be more cost effective than going to the gym. The social side of gameplay with the Nintendo Wii creates another plus point also, as the whole family can get involved, removing the 'isolation' factor of other video games consoles.
The newly announced Nintendo Wii game Wii Fit, is set to be a hot seller and could have women reaching for their purse strings. Wii Fit is a full on exercise game set to give you more of a workout than Wii Sports. The game features over 40 different activities and is designed to keep you physically fit via a dedicated peripheral, the wireless Wii Balance board which comes with the game. Training falls into 4 different categories: aerobics, yoga, muscle conditioning and balance games. The calorie busting fun of Wii Fit could be used as a slimming tool which would be a move into the lifestyle category, so men, women, children and grandparents alike could all benefit while still retaining all the fun of video gaming. It is thought that Wii Fit will hit our stores in early 2008 although Nintendo haven't given a released date yet.
The Nintendo Wii obviously reaches areas of the market that other video gaming consoles do not, so its no wonder that the Nintendo Wii console has created such a buzz since its launch and flown off the shelves for months after.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Long Live the Legend!
by Kristen Crane
Sonic the Hedgehog truely is a legendary video game icon. He smashed his way onto the gaming scene back in 1991 when SEGA first brought you the super fast, blue blur character.Known for his rebellious attitude and signature speed, Sonic has made a name for himself in the gaming world and has no plans of fading away anytime soon.
Not only can you find Sonic games on the original SEGA console, you can find Sonic games on next generation consoles including the Wii, PS3, PSP and Xbox 360.
Sonic and the Secret Rings was released for the Wii console on February 20, 2007. Sonic brought his trademark speed and rebellious attitude to the Wii in his first solo adventure since he was first introduced, back in 1991. The gameplay is simple, but challenging and sonic soars through the game at top speeds!
Sonic the Hedgehog is the title for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. This video game was created in order to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It was released November 14, 2006 for the Xbox 360 and January 30, 2007 for the Xbox 360.
Sonic Rivals was released November 24, 2006 for the PSP handheld console. Custom built for the Playstation Portable, Sonic Rivals is a unique head-to-head racing experience!
While these newer games are all the rage, you can also find great sonic games on other consoles as well, including the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS. The SEGA mascot brings fun and excitement to all the video games and drags some friends along for the fun. Some friends included are Miles Tails Prower, Amy Rose Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles Echidna and Cream the Rabbit. And, of course, Sonic's arch enemy, Dr. Eggman, shoves his way into games as well.
Oh, but wait! The fun does'nt stop there. Die hard Sonic the Hedgehog fans have created fun and exciting Sonic Flash Games for gamers to play online. They are browser based games that are creative, fun and addicting. Yes, you may find yourself playing these games for hours on end! One of my favorite Sonic Online Games is Ultimate Flash Sonic. It's an amazing remake of the classic SEGA Genesis game, Sonic the Hedgehog.
