Nokomis, Florida, Come and Visit
Nokomis, is a nice small town on Florida's West Coast with Oscar Scherer State Park and Casey Key beach on the Gulf of Mexico. This picture is of our son in his front yard in Nokomis. We visit often and know the city well. We have enjoyed eating in the restaurants that we videoed and photographed here. Check out our Sarasota Area Restaurant Guide , too.

Nokomis Beach, Casey Key, Florida.
This is the northern end of Nokomis Beach on Casey Key, Florida. It is a public beach with lots of free parking. If you look closely, you can see some private houses and bed and breakfast places far in the background. They are separated from the wide white sand beach by plantings of sea grass. Just before the end of the video I made, you can see the lifeguard watch tower on the far right side of the picture. It is better to swim at a beach attended by lifeguard because there is often dangerous undertow in Florida waters.

Saltwater Cafe in Nokomis, Florida.
There are several good restaurants in Nokomis, so when you vacation here, there is no need to drive south to Venice, Florida for a nice meal. Saltwater Cafe, which I photographed here, is conveniently located in a strip mall on Route 41, and is our favorite. We have enjoyed many meals there. Last Mother's Day buffet was one of our most memorable meals, especially the free Mimosa cocktail.

Ophelia's Pasta House for delicious Italian food on Rte. 41, Nokomis.
I had a delicious baked ziti lunch here at Ophelia's. Their dining area is subdivided into several separate rooms and they also have a long bar. Ophelia's restaurant is located in the northern end of the same mall as Saltwater Cafe. They are on the west side of route 41.

Pelican Alley Restaurant on the Water
My son and I enjoyed our fish and chips lunches at Pelican Alley last week. We were seated at a window table and passing boats and pelicans added to the fun. Seafood chowder is their signature dish. On many evenings they have live entertainment.

Nokomis Beach Drum Circle celebrates sunset on the Florida Gulf of Mexico beach.
Many of the beaches up and down the west coast of Florida celebrate sunset over the Gulf of Mexico with a drum circle. These are informal events. The Nokomis Beach Drum Circle is on Sundays, weather permitting. All are welcome to join in the dancing. I have never personally attended one. :)

Nokomis, Florida
Nokomis is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,334 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area.
There is also another community in Escambia County, Florida (in the northwestern part of the state) which is named Nokomis.
Nokomis is famous for Casey Key, a barrier island split with the CDP of Osprey created by the intracoastal waterway, where there are beachfront houses worth millions of dollars lining the key.

Fly into Fort Meyers - drive short distance north to Nokomis
Or you could fly into Bradenton-Sarasota Airport (SRQ) and then take Route 41 south to Nokomis. It takes about 20 - 30 minutes between SRQ and Nokomis. But, Fort Meyers is a bigger airport with more different airlines flying in and out. And Fort Meyers airport is about the same distance from Nokomis.

- Im going to start taking advantage of the gorgeous sharks teeth Ive collected over the years and do the jewelry thing. Started and stopped in the past. It IS beautiful her, and so very undiscovered, by and large. We want to keep it that way long as possible. Ive been doing some walking, and its been a while for that. Doctors orders. Cant believe the times I say to myself"I shouldve brought my camera." The spanish moss and blue skys forever alone, are worth a walk. - I live in Nokomis, can run to the USA's best unknown beach, rarely more crowded than in your video, lifeguarded year-round. Swam in the Gulf in January - water temp 63 degrees. Often hear German and French more than English spoken on the beach. Pelican Alley is just across the bridge from the beach, looks beat but has great seafood. On the way to/from the beach stop at Bentleys Homemade Ice Cream on Albee Rd. In town during winter - go to Nokomis Groves (citrus) get the orange ice cream. Population increases by 3x during "season" January through March, best time to visit is Oct - Nov or Apr - May, actually any time is best, this is the world's best weather.

- Sarasota area is delightful - art, beach, laid back lifestyle, many beautiful homes and great places to visit. My step-daughter lived there for many years and spends her winters there, making custom jewelry and dancing/spinning fire at the drum circles.
