Australians Will Lay Out The Welcome Mat To America's First African-American President

March 2010 President Obama was to have visited Australia as part of a tour to Indonesia and Guam. His family was to have accompanied him but according to news.com.au the family holiday to Australia has been cancelled. Further to this, we now learn that the Obama trip has now been postponed with the most likely rescheduled trip to occur in June.

Press secretary Robert Gibbs told Washington media "the visit to Australia would commemorate the 70th anniversary of the US-Australia alliance during which Mr Obama is expected to discuss with Kevin Rudd a range of issues including global economic recovery, climate change and green energy, nuclear non-proliferation and Afghanistan."

Now, a year later and the trip is on again; The White House announcing on September 12 that the President would be visiting Australia on November 16-17 2011. What does seem unclear is the details of the apparent reason for his visit. According to The New York Times his visit will coincide with "the 60th anniversary of the alliance between the United States and Australia"! So it seems a year can take ten years off.

Barack Obama's Itinerary

November 2011

The Obama family had planned to visit Sydney and Canberra when they tour downunder later this month. Now that the president is travelling alone and due to the demands of his position back home, his trip has been shortened by several days.

Since the young Obama girls will not get to visit Australia, it will be up to dad to bring home souvenirs which represent the trip they've missed.

T-shirts are always a great reminder of a destination and these are some of the great designs the girls of the first family might receive on their father's return.

Here is a lovely shirt for Sasha and it could even be customised to say "Cuddled by Sasha"

Obamas On The Harbour

Perhaps the first family will come another time and when they do they'll want to see Australia's diva; Sydney. Of course there is always lots to do on and around Sydney Harbour. The Bridge Climb is always popular and a spectacular way to see the Harbour on a fine day. Another excellent way to soak up the atmosphere of Sydney Harbour is to have lunch in one of the many Harbourside restaurants. One of my favourites is The Waterfront. With outdoor dining under the shade of enormous sails you enjoy beautiful seafood with a front row seat overlooking the Opera House and the watercraft coming and going on the harbour.

Conservative Victory: Defeating Obama's Radical Agenda by Sean Hannity

Conservative Victory: Defeating Obama's Radical Agenda by Sean HannityThis book is in the number three position on Amazon's bestseller list six weeks before its release date so it is obviously a topic that resonates with a large number of Americans. Conservative Victory: Defeating Obama's Radical Agenda is described as a call to action.

Amazon describes this book, "Barack Obama and his radical team of self-professed socialists, fringe activists, and others are trying to remake the American way of life. They have used their new Democratic majority to launch an alarming assault on our capitalist system-while abandoning the war on terror, undermining our national security, and weakening our position in the eyes of our enemies. The "candidate of change" is threatening to change our country irreparably, and for the worse-if we don't act to stop him now.

Sean Hannity has been sounding the alarms about Obama and his agenda from the start. Now-in his first new book in six years-he issues a stirring call to action. Hannity surveys all the major Obama players-from the president's affiliation with radical theology to his advisers' history of Marxist activism, repression of the media, support for leftist dictators, and worse. He exposes their resulting campaign to dismantle the American free-market system and forfeit our national sovereignty. But he draws on the examples of Ronald Reagan and the GOP's Contract with America to show how conservatives can unite behind this country's most cherished principles and act now to get America back on the right track-while we still can."

The Audacity to Win: The Inside Story and Lessons of Barack Obama's Historic Victory by David Plouffe

The Audacity to Win: The Inside Story and Lessons of Barack Obama's Historic VictoryThe Audacity to Win: The Inside Story and Lessons of Barack Obama's Historic Victory is the account of Barack Obama's successful 2008 presidential election campaign as recounted by his campaign manager, David Ploufffe.

Here's what some readers have said about this boof:

"While Obama was inspiring people all across America with his "Yes we can" calling, David Plouffe (and David Axelrod) were conducting the down-to-earth side of this "unique mixture of idealism and pragmatism" (author's words in the Epilogue) and translating it into an organizational structure based in simple but essential electoral and mathematical considerations that guaranteed Obama's capacity to triumph in different scenarios. Make no mistakes about it: the pen is mightier than the sword, indeed, but behind Obama's powerful (s)words there was always a connection with the hard realities of a succesful presidential campaign. And that, in my opinion, is what David Plouffe's book is about." by Rodolfo Camacho

"If you are a democrat who supported Obama this is a must read to see how Plouffe and company energized a nation and spread the message of change. If you are a republican this is a must read to see how it was the Obama campaign was so easily able to convince indie voters and some republicans to support Barack Obama. This book is history, fresh history, and is a must read for anyone interested in politics." by Joshua A. Neyhart

What Do You Think The President Should Do When He Visits Australia?

  • tcorbs Nov 21, 2011 @ 3:47 pm | delete
He should visit the Great Barrier Reef.

Some great places to visit. Worthwhile spots for any visitor to our shores. Am I excited about this visit - no, not particularly. Great lens though 5*****

I don't know if you should be anymore excited than I am about his going to Australia but I think you would make a great tour guide.

Interesting approach to Obama's visit to Australia. I'm not sure if you should be excited or not. I'm disappointed by his first year in office. It seems to have only widened the political chasm here.
