Article Of The Day
PR, Marketing, Advertising, Publicity
Search image and other ideas at www.indianeye.orgPublic relations. Marketing. Advertising. Publicity! If you want a tough twister that will boggle your mind as well, try saying that one ten times fast. The prior are four related, yet separate areas of the communication industry.
Marketing would likely be the area that the general public is most likely to understand and associate with. As a college student I was very involved in everything from the student newspaper, to student government, service committee, tutoring and everything in between. Somehow, marketing was thrown in the mix when an old friend asked me to become the marketing director of the arts and lectures committee. Before this experience I had never realized how much marketing goes into keeping a university afloat. Marketing is such a large part of everyday life that many fail to see for what it is. Of course that are the common examples such as billboards and movie previews, but if everyone were r to think back to the letters that he or she recieved from assorted educational facilities , the purpose is to convince one to attend such facilities. The purpose of marketing is to create awareness of products and services while at the same time creating interest. In other words sales may finish the deal, but marketing convinces the buyer.
Now I have written an entire post on publicity. The bottom line is that it's a free means of positively or negatively influencing an individual or organizations image. Publicity is a helpful tool in the areas of public relations, advertising and marketing.
Advertising is all about repetition. If a person were to turn on the television and watch it for a minimum of two hours on the same station, it would not be uncommon for that person to see the advertisements from the same company, even if not the exact same advertisement, up to but not limited at five to seven times. Talk about your subliminal messages.
Public relations is my passion. I could think of millions of positive things to say about public relations, but the fact is that it can be a very complicated field. Public relations involves research and careful thought just like the other three fields that I have discussed or will be discussing, but the research is completed in order to learn as much as possible about a person or organization that seeks representation as well as all applicable foes. Public relations is about trust and commitment. In public relations the goal is to make the client appear to the public as the best version of him or herself.
Though these areas are very different, they do share a common purpose, to improve and promote image and reputation of persons and products. Enough said.

Let Us Know Your Thoughts!
Obviously, we cannot get enough of the salicious and intimate details concerning the misdeeds of a promising former senator and presidential candidate. I find it interesting, that our country holds dear (in theory) the most puritanical thoughts on sex and family values, yet reality shows filled with sexual conquests and foul language abound. Television shows aimed at the family hour leave little to the imagination. We have become a nation of voyeurs, preening, poking, examining, probing into the lives of the rich and famous. It has become a national sport, the stakes are just as high, and obtaining the winning photo, "friends" who will give up the most intimate details of your life, gain the "prize" in cash.
