There were no automatic qualifiers in this round which took place in extremely wet conditions. Many of the throwers had fouls as the slipped or slid over the throw line. By the time Group B got started though conditions had improved and the results reflected it with 3 automatic qualifiers.

WOMEN - Thursday 21st August

It was an excellent competition in the Women's Final! Bad weather made conditions difficult and there were a few slips but it didn't dampen the competition!

Two National records in the top 4 and all time record for the eventual winner BARBARA SPOTOKOVA. The Russian MARIA ABAKUMOVA was winning up until the final round with a National Record throw but the eventual winner pulled out a very respectable 71.42m to win.

It was another fantastic Men's Olympic Final. In better conditions than the women had to contend with the other day there was no mistaking the winner. Thorkildsen retained his title with the only 90m plus throw of the competition.
