On Page SEO Explained

The content and the text that is placed on your web sites pages are considered to be On Page SEO. This technique is used for editing your page and it?s content to be searchable in the search engines when a web surfer is trying to find a topic that relates to your website.

On Page SEO or search engine optimization has been around since search engines began. They started with a simple technology since the the World Wide Web was a great deal smaller. As the web began to grow larger it has became more complex for search engines to differentiate your page from other pages. Searching on ?Cars? could lead to results more than a million+ pages that use the word ?Car? on their site. The more sophisticated technology of Off Page SEO has started to take over now that the search engines as well as the World Wide Web have grown larger.

The reasoning of On Page SEO is to ensure your site is as search engine friendly as it can be. If you do not optimize your website for keyword search your chance of obtaining good results in the major search engines will be dramatically less. You should make sure your website is properly indexed by the search engines. There should be at least one link on each of your pages that directs the user somewhere else. All content on your pages should be original.

Meta tags should be properly arranged with your page title tags and description tags that are describing the content of your pages. Ensure the page title tags are 68 characters or less and the descriptions tags are 148 characters or less but more detailed. H tags should be used to label the different headers on your webpage. The web page URL should be SEO friendly too by using mod re-write for Linux and Apache hosting for IIS redirect for Windows versions. Ideally you should try to ensure that your URLS describe your pages content as closely as possible.

Page links should be checked for any dead links. Use descriptive URLS for all images you have on your site instead of just a bunch of numbers. All images need to be labeled with descriptive alt attributes appropriately.

Using anchor texts links within your page to redirect traffic to the other sites is highly recommended. If your site is selling coat racks then you should have anchor links placed in the text coat racks wherever the word appears on your page. Check that only one version of your site is active within the searches.

No need to waste Page Rank on any pages that are not needed for search engines. Use the rankings for pages that are more important for receiving traffic. Use the rel=?nofollow? tag in those pages. This tag can also be used for pages that you don?t trust or simply do not want to assist in the search engines results.

You have to make sure the code is correct to make the search engine crawl the website. Using the W3C validator you can check your pages markup. Simply follow these guidelines for On Page SEO and you should get good results in the search engines and good Page Rankings.
