Innovation Part Of Many Progams
Several institutions are adding or revamping business degree offerings in what some say are the growing areas of technology, entrepreneurship, and the environment and sustainability, as well as areas that address global issues. MBA programs particularly are changing with the times, according to reports. Working professionals who want to change or advance their careers might particularly find MBA programs appealing and in some instances can work toward MBA degrees online.Chalk it up to innovation, something that the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business says drives success in business and society and that business schools are doing a lot to foster. In the report, Business Schools on an Innovation Mission, the Tampa-based association recommends revamped curricula as well as promoting interdisciplinary research, conducting outreach initiatives and more. The association, which accredits worldwide business schools and accounting programs, works also to advance management education.

Online MBA Programs Combine Green Initiatives With Higher Education

At an Indiana university's business school, graduate students can actually enroll in an MBA program in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation. With help from a $4.8 million gift, the business school plans also to create a global business institute, according to an April announcement. In Pennsylvania, one university has changed its curriculum to emphasize innovative thinking and entrepreneurial skills, a July report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette noted. Enrollment at another Pennsylvania university's graduate business school has increased as a result of rising interest in an MBA degree in sustainability, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article.
Graduate students interested in technology management, on the other hand, might consider a new online MBA concentration in this area at an Albany college's business and technology school. Innovation isn't exclusive to graduate programs, however. An entrepreneurship center that's part of a Maryland University's business school is offering undergraduate students classes where they can commercialize the institution's technology and join business school students in China, learning alongside them and participating with them in a business plan competition.

In terms of outreach efforts, an Ivy League institution's business school recently announced that it has established a presence on Twitter and Facebook as a means of updating 2012 applicants on admissions. In fact, 95 percent of college and university admissions offices used at least one form of social media in 2009, according to a University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth study mentioned in an August 2010 WebProNews report. Colleges, universities and technical schools continue to outpace Fortune 500 and fast-growing Inc. 500 companies in social media blogging, the study notes.Business schools at colleges and universities are researching areas of technology such as e-commerce and social networking as well. In 2009, a Harvard researcher who studied social networking use found that most people spend time on these sites looking at pictures. MySpace is popular particularly in hotspots such as Alabama, Arkansas, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Florida, the researcher noted.
