Yes, You Can Complete A Degree Online!

So many people say, "I don't know where to start. What type of accreditation should the school have? Will online schools have financial aid available? Will I need a proctor for the exams?"

I had all these same questions and more! The answer to all those questions is, "Yes!" It will not be easy just because the classes are online. You will have to study hard and set a schedule for yourself and stick with it. If you are not computer literate, I would recommend that you take a computer class first before beginning your online classes.

Let's explore some common questions.

  1. "Where do I start?"

Start by researching the different schools with online programs. Check each school's website to make sure they have the program that you are interested in and that the school is accredited. Keep your notes of each school so that you can decide which one best meets your needs. Make sure there is a contact person or an advisor that you can contact with questions you may have before and/or after you begin.

  2. "What type of accreditation should the school have?"

Regional Accreditation is the most common type of college accreditation in the USA in which there are six geographically categorized regions:

    • The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

    • The New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

    • The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

    • The Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

    • The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

    • The Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

From my own personal experience, I have found that these accrediting agencies are widely accepted when trying to transfer credits from one school to another.

  3. "Will online schools have financial aid available?"

  4. The answer is, "Yes!" If the school is accredited, financial should be available. However, there are no guarantees that you will receive it. You must apply by the deadlines and qualify to receive financial aid. You can speak directly to the financial aid advisor for your chosen school about how, when, and where to apply.

  5. "Will I need a proctor for the exams?"

This answer here is "yes" and "no." It depends on the school that you have chosen as to whether or not you will be required to have a proctor for exams. Some schools that I have spoken with allow all the testing to be done online while others always require a proctored exam. Almost always the college entrance exam will need to be proctored, if you live too far from the school's location, or done in person at the school.
