Sports Betting That Generate Profit For You, Not The Bookmaker!

Baseball, American football (NFL), rest-of-the-world football (soccer), horse racing, greyhound racing, car racing, boxing, cricket... the list of sports to bet on is almost as long as the list of experts attempting to guide you along the way.

One of the primary focuses of this lens is to introduce you to betting guides and/or products that will significantly advance your sports betting efforts.

The first four products on the list have a good track record of answering questions on what to bet on, how much to bet, and how to manage your bankroll. (Links go to the product description and order pages, and will open in a new window.)

[1] Frank Belanger, author of the Bookie Buster betting manual, shares 21 sports betting systems used by himself and other professional sports bettors. The systems explain basic approaches to sports betting, money management, betting strategies and selection methods. Most of the systems can be applied to any sport, with a few specifically designed for baseball.

The systems range from short term-high profit (entailing more risk) to monthly/weekly target cycles and others with much lower risk but consistent long-term profits.

Besides the PDF manual, Belanger's customers also get 30 days' free access to his premium selections as well as unlimited access to his daily pick.

Find out more about the Bookie Buster and its 21 proven strategies.

(Additional Tip: If you're new to sports betting, Frank Belanger recommends his System #21 (included in the Bookie Buster manual) along with his daily pick. The system is fairly low risk with good potential to build a solid bankroll over the long run. Another tip: Do yourself a favor and print the manual out. It's 160 pages long, and it help if you make notes or highlight formulas or important points as you go along.)

[2] The Betting Profits Formula package includes modules on general sports betting strategies, horse racing betting strategies, football betting strategies, as well as techniques to use on betting exchanges. Bonuses include "The Bookmaker's Secret", "Underground Interviews With The Pros", lifetime membership to the Betting Profits Club and the exclusive "Football Trading Profits" manual (this last addition is a limited offer, so I can't guarantee that it will still be included in the package).

Learn more about the various angles and techniques in Betting Profits Formula.

[3] The Compiler System makes the bold, and in my opinion justifiable claim that you can double any amount of money every 10 weeks using their system criteria. Also included with the manual: full selections posted weekly for the entire season at no extra cost, "The Bookmakers Business Inside Out", "No Draw Betting" - the loophole which will give you free cash on 73% of English games that don't finish in a draw, plus a free "priceless" bonus - "Professional Football Betting", which describes how the professionals beat the bookies, exactly how the bookmakers compile their odds and the information you need to be able to beat them.

Get more detail on the Compiler System.

[4] The Football Maestro package includes all the finalized football selection methods and techniques that will enable you to predict accurate scores for leagues and cups covering the European football scene. You'll learn about the BIG FACTOR influencing all teams and how to profit from this knowledge, and you'll receive daily e-mails on all selections, as well as all Euro 2008 selections.

Virtual Sports Betting

Where the Action is Virtual, But the Profits Real!

Professional sports bettors arrange their work days around their betting activities. They spend an hour or five on picking their selections (and justifying it to themselves), and then they place their bets.

But what do to if you're still stuck in a day job, with your (hopefully) serious sports betting activities limited to lunchtime and perhaps a few hours after dinner? The answer, as many people have discovered, is betting on virtual sports.

Many reputable online bookmakers offer virtual sports alongside their menu of regular (and real) sport events. The usual fare include virtual horse races, virtual greyhound races, and perhaps the most popular virtual action, soccer/football.

I have personally looked at virtual horse racing at Bet365. The graphics and speeds were good enough, but seeing that we're not in it for the thrill, what about the profit potential? Difficult to say. I paper tested a few races, lost a few, won a few, and ended up with a small profit (using the Smart Bet Wizard software). I didn't really use any fancy system (as I would with real horse races); all I did was back favorites higher than evens. (On the greyhounds I can't really comment, as I have yet to get to grips with actual greyhound races.)

The area where I have done some serious testing, is on virtual football (or soccer). I got hold of a copy of Frank Belanger's Virtual Sports Cash. (Frank Belanger is also the author of the reputable Bookie Buster sports betting manual, so I already knew he knows his stuff.) The Virtual Sports Cash manual is very comprehensive, taking you through the whole business of betting on virtual football games, including which bookmakers to use, why you should have more than one account, and of course, a number of actual systems to use with virtual football (the manual has recently been updated with three new systems).

The advantage of virtual football is clear from the start. In order for the bookmakers to keep punters coming back, the results have to be realistic. Of course Liverpool or Manchester United suffer the occasional defeat at the hands (or feet) of Bolton Wanderers or Birmingham City, but at the end of the season the usual suspects can be expected at the top of the league table: Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal.

The other BIG advantage of virtual football is that a complete week of play lasts only 90 seconds, and an entire season is played out within ONE hour! That means you can bet on football every day of the year, 24 hours a day (technically speaking). Yet another advantage is that you don't need a huge bankroll to start off with, seeing that you can build it up over a few hours with dozens of bets, and you don't need to analyze stats for hours (not time for it, anyways, as each week's games play out in 90 seconds).

So, if your day job is still in the way of getting ahead in your sports betting projects, I suggest you give virtual football a try, and instead of fooling around, get the Virtual Sports Cash manual to guide you along the way.

Recommended Online Sports Betting Sites

These sites are excellent resources for stats, results, general betting tips and daily selections.
Live Score Hunter
Live Score Hunter covers football (soccer), tennis, baseball, ice hockey, basketball, handball and Formula 1 racing. Very useful site if you want minute by minute results.
Sports Betting Systems: Reviews
Honest reviews of top sports betting systems, written by someone who actually own copies of the material, and who has use the systems in his own daily sports betting activities.
ESPN Major League Baseball (MLB) Scoreboard
The ESPN MLB Scoreboard is my personal preference when it comes to daily baseball scores. It also updates automatically every minute or so. Another plus is the extensive archive of results and range of statistics - scores, standings and individual stats.
ATP Tennis
This has become my favorite site for live ATP scores. Results are usually a few seconds delayed, so keep this in mind when you're trading on tennis matches, but if you're just interested in keeping track of the match, this is the best site to do so. Plenty of useful player stats are also just a few clicks away.
Yahoo! Eurosport UK: Football
Simple and comprehensive, this is the page to bookmark for fixtures, results, news, photos and league tables covering all the important UK & European football leagues.
ESPN National Football League (NFL) Scoreboard
The NFL version of the aforementioned MLB Scoreboard. Besides updated scores, you can expect a range of other numbers - score archives, standings and individual and team statistics.
ESPN National Basketball Association (NBA) Home Page
This is the link to the NBA homepage on ESPN. Teams, scores, schedules, players, standings & stats can all be perused from this page.
ESPN National Hockey League (NHL) Home Page
This completes the list of ESPN sport pages (at least on this lens). If hockey's your game, or if you're looking for another market to invest in, this NFL page is as comprehensive as the other ESPN sport pages.
Sporting Life
Sporting Life is more oriented towards UK sport events, with news, results and schedules on a variety of sports, including football (soccer), cricket, rugby, golf, tennis, rugby, snooker, as well as horse and greyhound racing.
Odds Explorer
Odds Explorer is a useful site to visit if you want to compare odds from various online bookmakers. Why would this be useful? Some people use the odds difference for arbitrage purposes (although other sites are more timely and accurate for this purpose) or simply to get a better estimate of probability.

Online Sports Betting Tips To Consider...

... If Making Money Is A Serious Consideration

An open-ended list of tips to keep in mind as your sports betting projects develop. Return often to check for new tips!
  • No single selection is ever guaranteed to win, but if you count on long-term consistencies you're almost guaranteed consistent returns.
  • As a rule, don't risk more than 2-3% of your bankroll on any single bet, and never more than 5%.
  • Online sports betting is like any other kind of investment, and should be treated as such. Successful traders use a strategy when they trade. Successful sports bettors are no different. Strategies include bet sizes as well as selections. Invest in strategies developed by professionals (see the list on sports betting products on this lens), or do your own research to see what works. In both cases paper testing for a few weeks are most advisable.
  • Make sure the online bookmaker you use is reliable. Do a Google search for unbiased reviews and ratings of bookmakers.
  • Don't get too confident after a win (or during a good winning streak), and don't get too upset after a loss (or during a frustrating losing streak). Always remember: streaks end.
  • Don't wager money based on emotion; use selections from professional handicappers, or do your own statistical analysis.
  • Stay away from crazy bets like teasers and 5-game parlays (or even more games). There's a reason why the potential payout is so high, and it's got very little to do with YOU getting rich...
  • A good money management tip is to divide your betting bank into four parts. Then, when you've added the equivalent of 25% to your bank as profit, divide the total into four again and increase your bets accordingly (ex. 2% of the new betting bank total per bet). The same rule applies when you've lost a 25% portion of your bank - divide the decreased total into four parts and adjust your bets accordingly.
  • Set profit goals for one week, or one month, or even for the entire season. Forget about making a profit from every single game or match. set your eyes on long term profits and you won't get too upset about short term losses.
  • I might be repeating some points I've already made, but stick with me. Before you start any sports betting project, ask yourself two questions: "How much do I want to win?" and "How much am I willing to lose in order to win that amount?" Remember: If you approach you sports betting like any other investment, you should be able to minimize your risk whilst maximizing return. Set a reasonable target to win using the amount you're willing to risk, don't get greedy after a win, and don't panic after a loss. Stock traders don't profit from every single trade; professional sports betting is no different.
  • Despite the dramatic titles some sports betting product authors favor, like "Spank Your Bookie" and even the acclaimed "Bookie Buster", bookmakers should not be seen as an adversary that should be busted (or even spanked). The bookmaker is an ally, a partner in your sports betting projects. After all, the bookmaker is the source of your sports betting income!
  • What to do when a trusted system backfires? What to do when a losing streak occurs that had less than 1% probability of happening? 1) You get back in the saddle the next day and hope your the system restores your previous faith in it, 2) You aim to be more skeptical in the future. And remember: Something that has less than 1% chance of happening, can still happen...
  • Stay tuned for more tips...

Types Of Sports Betting Wagers

It's easy to get lost between "goliaths," "trixies" and "parlays", and between "moneylines", "pucklines" and "runlines" (to name a few). This list will hopefully give meaning to the terminology.
  • Single Bet/Straight Bet: The most basic bet, where you bet at given odds that a specific team or player will win. Also called a "moneyline" bet.
  • Runline/Puckline/Asian handicap: These bets are designed to even things out when one team is a heavy favorite. The favorite team starts the game with a point deficit like -1.5 goals or runs, and therefore has to win the game with more than 1.5 points. The payout for winning such a bet is also higher than a straight win.
  • Total Over/Under: Provides the opportunity to bet on the combined total of points scored being over or under the estimate that the bookmaker set.
  • Parlay/Accumulator: A favorite with many punters because the payout can be high. the opposite is of course also true: the chances of success is usually low. In a parlay or accumulator you basically bet that two or more selections will win. If one selections loses, you lose the entire bet.
  • Futures: Bets on which team or player will win the league or championship. these bets can be profitable only if you are an expert in some sport.
  • Trixie: Another favorite with many bettors. A "trixie" is a kind of parlay where you bet on four outcomes, for example that Team A and Team B will both win, as well as Team A and Team C, and also Team B and Team C. The fourth bet is that all three teams will win. At least two selections must win to earn a return.
  • The Goliath: Like the Trixie, the Goliath falls in the multiple bet category. This bet consists of 247 bets comprising eight selections from different events, including a staggering collection of parlays. There are many more members of the Crazy Bet family, with names like "Yankee", "Lucky 31", "The Super Heinz", the "Lucky 63" and so on. Naturally you're best advised to stay clear of these exotic adventures...

Expert Advice

... From Those Who've Been There And Walked Away With A Profit

Betting on Horses Can be Profitable, but Beware of This Big Mistake

Betting on horses is not only fun, but can be profitable at times. No matter how you may have been introduced to horse racing wagering, sooner or later you'll have the thrill of cashing a big ticket and then you'll know why every day, all over the world, from the East to West, and from North to South, millions of people handicap horse races and make bets.

Winning is fun and picking winners is also fun and challenging, but of course, like any good and challenging puzzle, deciphering a horse race, making sense of the information and data available, and coming up with a profitable bet, is part of the fun. Horseracing has been around since people started using horses as a form of transportation. It was human nature to race each other and to see who had the fastest horse. That characteristic has been passed down for millennia and is still alive and well in the genes of countless humans.

Like the indomitable spirit of a fine thoroughbred, the spirit to race horses is just as strong in some people as can be evidenced by the fact that through wars, depressions, and all kinds of catastrophes and upheavals, people have continued to race horses.

The same spirit that makes us race horses also makes us compete as handicappers and of course, the lure of money doesn't hurt, either. Winning can be a heady experience and therein lies the problem. Sometimes, particularly after a big win, or even our first big win, we start to feel like we can't lose and can't be beat. That is when betting on horses can be the most dangerous and where many good bettors make their big mistake that wipes out all their gains. Many horse racing handicappers will tell you that their biggest loss or longest losing streak came right after a big win.

After a big win or particularly good run of luck, it is always wise to take a little time and make sure you are still focused, still using good money management techniques, and sticking with the system that made you successful. Like they say, "Dance with the one that brung ya'." No matter how lucky you may be or what has transpired to bring you a big win, in the long run, as any pro will tell you, it is a consistent systematic approach that will show a profit in the long run and keep you in the game.
