Beginning Guitarists...Please Read.. You WILL Succeed

I have been a guitar player for the last 17 years. Back in the day before the internet I was lucky enough to be given professional guitar lessons from qualified teachers and was often nutured from my family to practice and improve my musical abliity.

After years of dedication to the instrument I now help others on a daily basis to help achieve their guitar playing goals...

All too often I have seen people give up because its too hard.

Let me tell you something... playing the guitar IS hard.

But it is not impossible...obstacles in guitar playing are easy to easy to overcome if you know what to do.

The number one leading guitar course on the internet.

Depending on Your level of ability you may need to take different avenues of guitar instruction. If you are a beginning guitarist who has never picked up a guitar before but want to learn the basics all the way to some fairly advanced concepts then i reccomend Jamorama.com

If however you are beyond the scope of what Jamorama can offer and are at a more advanced level then the only way to Really improve is to get professional private guitar lessons... or enrol in a music institute to lead you to become a proffesional guitar player.

What does being a "good" Guitar player actually mean?

What is good? well... good means different things to different people.

Does good mean being able to shred and play solos at a blisteringly fast speed? It might to many people who play heavy metal guitar.

Does good mean being able to play in any key at any moment and improvise using modes in Jazz? Yes.. If you are a jazz player.

When someone says that they are good at guitar, it usually means they are good in a specific area of guitar playing.. I am HOPELESS at playing heavy metal, but i am exceptionally good at jazz improvisation and finger picking individual notes.

But generally speaking... Being good at the guitar really means being able to play the music you like and playing at a fairly proficient level.

It also means that you understand music theory and how the guitar fretboard is laid out and connected up.

Once you understand these concepts you are well on the way to becomming a great player no matter what musical area you want to specialise in.

So what makes a good guitar player?

I wil lay out exactly what makes a great guitar player, Remember success does not happen overnight but if you have goals and focus on achieveing them you will find yourself playing some beutiful songs and awe inspiring solos.

To play the guitar at a BASIC level you must:

-Understand all the parts of a guitar and what they do.
-How to tune the strings correctly, either using a tuner or by ear.
-Being able to play basic Open chords
-Being able to play basic rhythyms
-Understanding scales and intervals
-How chords work and how they are constructed
-How chords are put together to make songs
-How to use scales to solo
-Chord inversions
-Chord progressions
-Left hand and right hand specilized techniques
-Harmony
-How to practice for maximum progress
-How to perform in front of people wihtout anxiety

This is a fairly basic list there is a lot more (which is why the guitar is fantastic to learn... you never stop learning!)
But if you get these fundamental ideas down you are well on your way to becomming a very very good player.
