Our Lord & Our Lady Series by Michelle Collins

This series is a reflection of my Catholic faith. I did these some years ago. I also did some sculptures and other pieces during that time; however I gave most of them away. The Blessed Mother is very special to me. Knowing the sorrow She would endure She still said "Yes". As a mother I could not imagine, and wont even allow myself to think about going through what Our Lady went through. And of course, Jesus Himself, giving His life for all man kind. It truly is "The Greatest Story Ever Told!"

Jesus Mary & Joseph Original Art

Holy Family (Baby Jesus, Mary & Joseph)

Original 11"x14" Watercolor & Pencil Painting

I donated this piece to charity. In support of the Alzheimer's Family Organization: New Port Richey, Florida; 2004.

I tried to show the love of the family in this piece. Sweet Baby Jesus looking at Joseph, Kind eyes of Mary looking at Her New Born King holding Him softly against Her cheek. Joseph with love in his eyes gazing back at Jesus while holding them together. A perfect Family!

Tears of Joy (Mother & Child)

Original 12"x24" Oil on Lauan Painting

This piece is bitter/sweet: Joyful tears of having a new baby; tears of sadness of what is to come.

Story about the owner of this painting:

I live in Florida for over 20 years now, years ago when I was a hairdresser, I met this woman who was from the same town I was born when I lived on Long Island. In fact she worked as a nurse in the maternity ward at the hospital that I was born in, the very year I was born. Back in those days they would knock people out, and keep them for longer than they do now. She knew the doctor that delivered me, she was sure that she must have held me at some point during our stay (our being my mother and I).

I was 25 when we met. She was so excited to see one of her little ones from 25 years ago. Even more so that I was not in NY, but in Florida. I continued to do her hair for a couple of years, then became pregnant with my 3rd daughter. It was then when I had to stop working. Soon after I started to sell my artwork.

Later down the road, at one of my art shows, the woman I discuss above ended up buying this painting. She said it reminded her of her days of working with babies.

A Mothers Tear (Our Lady's Sorrow)

Original 16"x20" Oil on Canvas Painting

SOLD
This piece belongs to my biggest collector: Cheri Chapman of Aubrey, Texas.

Once again this piece focuses on the sadness She must have felt while watching her Son in pain die on the cross. The shadow behind Her is of the cross, with just one tear coming for Her welled up eyes.

Our Lady's Intersession (Our Mother)

Original 16"x16" Oil on Canvas Painting

This piece is in my own personal collection.

There is a wide spread misunderstanding of where Catholics stand with regard to the Virgin Mary. Some say we worship Her. This is untrue. We hold her to a high regard, She is the Mother of God, and if She is special to God, should She not be to us?

Just as one would ask for a friend, or a family member to pray for us in times of need; we as Catholics do the same with Our Lady. She was given to the world as Our Mother by Jesus while He was dieing on the cross.

He left Her to us!

(John 19:26-27) When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he says to his mother: Woman, behold your son. 27 After that, he says to the disciple: Behold your mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own."

About This Painting

This painting was a sort of prayer piece.,,,

Painting Of Artist Painting

The image shown is a painting my mother did of me, painting this piece.

I did this painting when I was going through a terrible time in my life. Dealing with the murder of my beloved cousin; and the trial of his murder. There was a lot more going on at that time as well. I had become pregnant with my 3rd daughter and did not know it. I was very emotional during this time.

The piece was intended to be a 16"x20" with a shining city at the top of the hill. But as I was dealing with my issues, my doctor began to give me anti depressants (not knowing I was pregnant)

Once I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking the medicine. I was relieved and felt blessed for this to happen at this time. My mindset was changed, and my life would change. It took me out of the state of misery I was in prior to the beginning of the painting. I could not get "back there" nor did I want to. So I just cut the top of the painting off and left it unfinished as is. It hangs in my home today.
