More Women Over 40 Are Having Babies Than Ever Before

According to the webpage "Mothers 35 Plus", there is an almost 50% increase from ten years ago in the number of women over forty who are now having babies. There are a variety of reasons why some women are having babies later in life. Some women want to have a career first, while others may have been trying for awhile and are just now having their miracle baby. Some of the celebrity moms listed here have gone through Invitro Fertilization.

Whatever the reason, each mom is courageous in her own way. I would like this lens to be light, and entertaining because as most people find out I'm pregnant (and 40), they usually make a comment referring to my advanced age and always thinking about this can make one quite anxious. Enjoy the stories below!

Kelly Preston, 48 and John Travolta, 56, welcome a new son, Benjamin

Kelly Preston, 48, and John Travolta, 56, welcomed their son on Nov. 23, 2010 in a Florida hospital. "John, Kelly and their daughter Ella Bleu (10) are ecstatic and very happy about the newest member of the family," John's rep says in a statement. "Both mother and baby are healthy and doing beautifully." Baby Ben was born weighing a healthy 8 pounds and 3 ounces.

Kelly discovered she was expecting in May, a little over a year after their 16-year-old son, Jett, died of a seizure in the Bahamas. The Travoltas "miracle child" has brought joy to their life after devastating heartache. "I can't wait for the day to come and hold him in my arms," Kelly said in September. !

In 2008, Berry, 41, and her boyfriend, 32-year-old model Gabriel Aubry, had a baby girl named Nahla Ariela. Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, now 42, admits she's keen for more kids, but fears she's too old. She insists that, at her age, she can only try and leave the rest to nature, reports contactmusic.com. They'd been trying for a child for some time - she told Oprah Winfrey they "tried and tried and tried to get pregnant".

Nicole Kidman with daughter, Sunday Rose

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, both 40, welcomed their first child, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. Before the couple even started dating, Kidman made her desire for more children clear. In April 2005, she told reporters that her biological clock was ticking. "I have got hormones running through my system," she said. "That is why I sit wriggling, saying I want to have a baby."

Nicole recently attributed the "miracle" birth of her daughter to the health-giving pristine waters she swam in while filming in a remote location in Western Australia.

Nancy Grace with twins, John and Lucy

Nancy Grace, 47, and husband David Linch welcome twins. Says Grace: "I never thought it would happen like this. I thought 'mother' and 'wife' was just not part of God's plan for me."

Nancy Grace would not reveal whether or not she underwent fertility treatments. But the expectant mom does say finding "such happiness" at this point in her life should inspire people. "Tell women out there that there is hope," she says.

Mariska Hargitay with her son, August

Mariska Hargitay, 42, and husband Peter Hermann, 38, welcomed their first child, August, who weighed 10 lbs., 9 oz. at birth. The first-time mom said she loved being pregnant. "I can't wait to meet this child, but I also don't want it to end," she told PEOPLE last month. "I feel more beautiful and goddessy than I ever have."

Holly Hunter with Gordon MacDonald

The Academy award winning actress, Holly Hunter, was 47 when she gave birth to twin boys with British actor Gordon MacDonald. Holly responded, after being complimented on how great she looks after giving birth to twin boys: "I can only thank my mother for that. I was blessed with the genes that I have. So I have my mother and my father to thank, I guess." In a 2009 interview, Hunter stated to TV Guide that she does not discuss the children with media.

It is for me, but there's no reason women should feel rushed to have a child."

Geena Davis and husband Reza Jarrahy

In 2001, Beverly D'Angelo, 49, gave birth to Al Pacino's twins. Conceived through in vitro fertilization, Anton and Olivia Pacino weighed in at just more than 5 lbs. each. Giving birth at 49 was no snap for D'Angelo, especially when she had pre-labor contractions toward the end of her pregnancy. I think 40 is the new 20. A woman over 40 has a lot to offer.

Kelly Preston didn't look 48. Some question the health factor in having babies at 40+ but I think as long as every health precaution is taken, it's okay. Some who are at the prime age for child bearing neglect their health so age isn't really the main reason when or when not to have babies.

I think it is great to have a baby after 40, for me everything went OK. Have to admit that my energy level is lower than 20 years ago, which is a bit tough with small children around!

This book is definitely my baby bible. Having forgotten more than I remember about the day-to-day tasks of taking care of a baby, this book has been a lifesaver. It covers everything from breastfeeding, to symptoms of different sicknesses, and bathing. Best of all, it explains how your child is developing and what they should be doing each month of their life. I couldn't live without it.
