Owning a Stun Gun- How Old Do I Have To Be To Get One?

No one is an exception to being attacked. It does not matter if you are male, female, old, young, white, black- a criminal will not care at all. That is the reason why we should equip ourselves with self dense items such as a STUN GUN to protect ourselves from attackers. However, there are state restrictions that we need to follow such as limits as to the age.

Owning a Stun Gun- How Old Do I Have To Be To Get One?

It cannot be denied that crimes are prevalent in our society. It is unfortunately, a part of our lives. The only thing that we can do is to be prepared. Yet, the "It could never happen to me" way of thinking is a common problem. Anyone can be the next victim. You can be the next victim. No one could ever predict where and when but it's about time that you educate yourself on how to legally defend your person in case the unthinkable happens to you.

Self defense products are very popular in the market. These may include pepper sprays, shock guns, and stun guns to name a few. All these items are extremely effective to prevent anyone from attacking you.

A stun gun is a hand-held, non lethal, electroshock, personal protection device that generates a very high voltage but little amperage which could render your attacker immobilized for a moment, giving you enough time to escape and ask for help.

However, not everyone could carry a stun gun legally. There are some states wherein stun guns and other personal protection devices are not available for sale or use. There are also restrictions on age.

So, how old do you have to be to legally buy or carry a stun gun?

The general rule is, you have to be at least 18 years old to legally get one. Most states have laws making it a punishable offense for those below 18 years of age to carry a stun gun, pepper spray or any other kind of non-lethal device. Although some incidentally allows minors 16 years old and above to possess stun guns as long as they have their parent's consent.

Most companies who are in the self defense/ personal protection business have liability disclaimers which state that there is absolutely no sale to minors under 18 years of age.

One reason for this might be because people in their teens tend to act on impulse. They are likely to be less mature and responsible than adults and might just be lured to mishandle a stun gun. They might use it to avenge themselves or someone, or they might use it plainly as a prank.

Although stuns guns are non-lethal and will not cause permanent damage, it is still important that it be used properly and accordingly. It is very customary for people to purchase stun guns but have no idea how to use them. This might be the case if minors are allowed to carry one. Knowing how to properly use the stun gun is a must and will give you more assurance when you are out at night and alone.

Although it is greatly advisable that we all carry a self defense item with us, not everyone may be able to use it properly. If you want to know if you can legally carry a stun gun, read your state laws or visit the nearest law enforcement agency.

This was my 1000th lens that I "liked." I'm stunned....I just got a trophy (sorry for the bad pun). Anyway, very unique idea for a lens. Wonder if these work on bears which are more of a problem for Montanans then "bad guys." Blessed by a twitching angel.
