A Prison Story

This is my tribute to the HBO series Oz. It ran for 6 seasons in the 90's. I found it quite by accident one day. I was looking for something to watch on TV and the title intrigued me, so I checked it out.

It's about an experimental prison. The inmates are all in glass cells, and the whole series is about how different groups of people interact in prison. It's not meant to be realistic, but after watching one episode, I was hooked. I watched it every time I saw it was on, and now I own all 6 seasons.

Available Seasons On Amazon

Here's some copies you can find on Amazon. If you get this though, you need to start with Season 1. The storyline continues through the whole length of the season. Earlier happenings are referred to the whole time.

My Description

I think it's a great series. The characters are well developed and grow through the series. Some of the characters are quite interesting. There's a lawyer that's there for a DWI, a Muslim teacher, the man in charge of the program at the prison itself, a psychiatrist nun (played by Rita Moreno), a warden (played by Ernie Hudson), who's trying to make the best of the situation, and an Irishman that's always trying to "stir things up." There are numerous guest appearances, one by Peter Criss comes to mind, and many other interesting characters that are killed off during the run of the series. There are some graphic scenes throughout it, but they're only there as part of the storyline. All in all, a very entertaining and interesting series.

Other than the few people I mentioned above, you're not going to find any stars on this series. Well, at least they weren't at the time. If you decide to start following the series, you will see faces that are familiar now because they've gotten other roles since then.

Do You Think This Type Of Show Is Interesting?

My thoughts are that it's very entertaining. It's not really a soap opera, and not really like anything else that's been on TV that I can remember.
