P90X gets You Ripped in 90 days.....For Real??

To be totally honest maybe this isn't the B-E-S-T P90X Review ever. I still think this P90X Review is going to be pretty dang close. First off i think it would be best to be honest and say that I am a little biased towards the program since I am a beachbody coach and i do sell their programs as a side business. With that being said though, i have also been around the P90X Workout Program for about 2 1/2 years and was part of the first group of beachbody coaches allowed to offer their products for sale. I have used the 90 day program several times throughout the year and ever time i "get back on the wagon" it seriously kicks my butt.
In this review I will share what i personally like and dislike, what works best for me, the hardest workouts in my opinion, and an honest review of the meal plan and meal suggestions.

P90X- Where the X=Extreme.....I guess P90E just doesn't sound as cool.

Don't be confused, even though P90X is an in home workout this workout it is not for the lazy or weak. P90X is truly an extreme workout and is not to be trifled with.

Muscle Confusion: The Science Behind P90X

P90X and Tony HortonA little confused about what exactly muscle confusion is? To help, let's break it down to see exactly why P90X uses this approach to help people lose weight and get ripped.

The body has a tendency to adapt very well to stresses on the system, including exercise. Professional athletes train in "blocks" which consist of working out certain muscle groups in a particular way followed by a recovery phase. As you progress through the phases of each block, the goal is to alter your routine so that the body has difficulty adapting and thus you continue to get results.

The process of continuously changing up your exercise routines is called Muscle Confusion and P90X utilizes this technique as the heart of the program.

As your body adapts it strives to achieve efficiency. The more efficient you are with any given task the easier it is to accomplish that task, and the less it really affects you, so your results hit a road block, in the P90X program this phenomenon is called the Plateau Effect.

Once that plateau is hit you have to change things up and start in on another block otherwise the affects of the workouts decrease over time. The recovery phase (which will be discussed a little later) of each block allows the body to heal and get stronger for the next block. With this technique the P90X system allows you to increase the intensity of each block, and maximize the results you get during the time you spend on your daily workouts.

Thats why the true science behind the P90X workout is the Muscle Confusion technique.

Don't we all just love celebrities??? It's hard to imagine that celebrities don't just get infused with perfect looking bodies through the magic of expensive science and medicine, no most of them actually they have to work hard like the rest of us to keep those lean, perfect looking physiques.

the difference most of the real world is not infused with bundles of cash, so from time to time it's nice to know that when some celebs work out, they just might use the same programs you use.....heres a few examples of celebs that use P90X as their workout program of choice.

There's a lot more celebs that use P90X, but i thought i would just list my Top 10.
  • Sheryl Crow
  • Ashton Kutcher
  • Demi Moore
  • Usher

If Your Thinking About Buying P90X Don't Get Ripped Off

Buy P90XTheres a lot of scam artist out there trying to hock P90X for a lot less that what Beachbody or any real beahcbody affiliate sells it for. If you don't know already P90X retails for about $119.85 plus shipping and taxes. If you come across P90X online for anything cheaper it is 100% guaranteed to be a fake. Sure it might look like a good site with all kinds of guarantees and kick butt customer service but the bottom line is if they sell for less than daddy Beachbody there scams.

Why Is This The Case And How Do I Know Who Sells Fakes??

Beahcbody has some seriously strict rules with it's affiliates one of which is that they have to sell it for the same retail price. This protects beachbody form their very own affiliates undercutting them and driving the prices down. With any kind of digital media that can reproduced and copied from China and shipped over they need to take a strong stand on this and make sure everyone that wants to play, plays by the rules.

Since P90X is a crazy hot fitness item that is searched all over the internet many unscrupulous pirates thought it would be a good idea to rip off Beachbody take their product and copy it so bad that the Frankenstined leftover version is extremely far from the original. There are all kinds of horror stories of people who wanted jumped at the opportunity to save a few bucks only to find that what they got was junk forcing them to go back to an authorized vendor and buy the program all over again.

If you think that theres not many scam artist out there just go to google.com and type in P90X and scroll to the bottom to find all of the websites that google has removed due to copyright infringement. The list is long and growing every day. Save yourself some time, money, and frustration and pay the retail amount knowing that you can sleep well at night because when your package arrives it will be legit and ready for you.

Does Shopping Around Help At All?

Heck yeah shopping around still saves you lot's of money. Beachbody may control the retail price but it gives it's authorized retailers some latitude when it comes to their shipping rates and whether or not they choose to charge their customers sales tax. Buying directly from beachbody will incur a hefty shipping charge and tax whereas some of their affiliates do not charge tax and may charge half the shipping rate. Shopping around could yield you savings fo $15-$20 bucks or more on P90X .

    9) Chest, Shoulders & Triceps
    10) Back & Biceps
    11) Cardio X

  2. The P90X Calendar
The P90X calendar is a simple 3 page fold out calendar. On one side of the fold out you are given the three phases over time to the 90 day program. In each section of each phase you are instructed as to which DVD or DVD's you should do for that particular day of the phase. In addition to each phase you are given three options of the program that you can choose to do. The options include: The Classic Program, The Lean Program and the Doubles Program.

The opposite side of the fold out gives you the actual calendar, showing each of the 90 Days and giving you space in each of those days to write what workouts you did and if you stuck to your meal plan. At the start of the calendar are the words "Take before Picture" and at the end of the calendar are the words "Take after picture".

  3. The Fitness Guide:

The Fitness guide is an extensive description of every exercise that the P90X program is made up of. Most of the exercises that make up P90X are 60 seconds or less. It doesn't matter if it;'s the Yoga DVD your on or the Cardio DVD the majority o f the exercises are quick, rapid fire in design to keep you excited and your muscles confused.

  4. The Nutrition Guide:

The P90X nutrition guide is very comprehensive, although it doesn't cover every possible eating scenario it comes very close. You are given may options on how to build your meals, you can either use the P90X recipes for each meal or just use the guidelines to create your own meal plan while still staying within the diet parameters. I have listed below the 3 phases the P90X Nutrition guide offers.

    Phase 1: Fat Shredder
This phase is the lowest in calories to help kick start weight loss and is followed for the first four weeks. Carbohydrates are almost completely eliminated while protein intake is kept high to help with building muscle and burning fat.

    Phase 2: Energy Booster
In phase two complex carbohydrates are added back into the diet to allow you to train harder and keep up with the intense workouts during this phase.
Dieters are permitted to eat three serves of complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat bread, pasta or oatmeal as well as one piece of low glycemic index fruit daily. Protein intake also remains high so as to aid in muscle recovery.
You can stick with this phase as long as it is working for you and only need to progress to phase 3 if you want to increase muscular endurance and gain more muscle.

    Phase 3: Endurance Maximizer
Carbohydrates are increased further to give you the stamina necessary to get through the high intensity workouts of this phase.
In all of the phases eating frequent small meals and drinking lots of water are emphasized.
Dieters have two options for each phase; either follow the meal plan or the portion plan. The meal plan includes sample menus with recipes. With the portion plan you are given a list of how many serves of each food type you are allowed so you can devise your own meal plans.

What else do I need for P90X?

P90X Chin up barThe P90X Program does come with a number of tools to help you and get you started. As described above it provides you with the 12 workout DVD's, the Nutrition guide and the Fitness guide. There are however several items that are needed to get the absolute best results from the P90X Workout program.

1) Chin Up Bar
This is necessary for most back exercises. you could substitute a resistance band but you will only be getting a small percentage of the P90X back exercise results.

2) Resistance Bands and or Dumbells
I personally chose to have both resistance bands and dumbells. Before you go out a buy a bunch of dumbells try some of the workouts first to see how much weight you think you will need. I know for me i rarely used dumbells more than 30lbs.

3) A Plyometrics Mat
The P90X Plyo workout does involve a lot of jumping around and if your on a hard surface, even with excellent shows having a mat underneath you will help keep your joints and ankles feeling good the next day.

4) Heart Rate Monitor
For many of the cardio exercises Tony refers to his heart rate monitor, it's good to know if you are in your zone, above it or below it to get maximum results form the cardio exercises.

5) Recovery or After Workout Drink
God knows when i am down with a P90X DVD i am ready for some replenishing nourishment. I used the P90X recovery drink and it helped with soreness the next day and just made me feel much better throughout the day of the workout. There are many recovery drinks available just use a little caution when purchasing one.

Why I prefer In Home Programs over a Gym

The P90X Workout program runs about $120 bucks and then there's shipping. Compare that to your local gym membership and 3-4 months your ahead of the game. Granted the P90X does have a hefty price tag, especially when you compare it to other in home workout programs. but let's face no other workout program comes close to getting the results that P90X'ers get. I know there are other gyms that include a lot of bells and whistles, like pools, hot tubs, saunas, juice bars etc. But how many people actually use those extra options that end up really just raising the cost of your overall monthly bill.

I know one positive factor to having a gym membership is that paying that fee each month does bring by itself a little accountability and I suppose you feel if you don't go you just took that hard earned money and threw it out the window.

I have been a member of many gyms throughout the years and it always ends the same, iI start off really motivated and then it just becomes to cumbersome to change it my gym clothes grab a bottle of water and protein bar, get in the car and drive my butt over to the gym no matter how close it is.

Then of course there's another completely separate issue. i like to call it the "Meat Head" factor. Why is it every time I walk into a gym I feel like a complete moron surrounded by people that seem like they are analyzing every wrong move I make on some exercise machine. i can't stand that, and quite frankly it's one of the BIGGEST turn offs to me when it comes to going to the gym. That's why I think in the long run working out in my own home, where the only critic is myself suits my needs much more.

I Prefer In Home Workout Programs...but what about You??

Tony Says "BRING IT"

Tnoy Horton Bring It"Bring It" is a phrase often heard by Tony Horton throughout the P90X Workout. P90X is an Xtreme workout and not to be trifled with and if you plan on using it to its fullest potential than the phrase "Bring It" has got to be part of your modo to.

Bringing it involves you putting 110% effort into each of the 90 days. I have come to find that is also involves more than just the 1 hour or so you are actually working out. Bringing it involves 24/7 dedication to not only the workout routines but also the diet plan and being committed to not let anything get in your way to the success and results you deserve.

So when Tony Horton says: "Bring it" take his advice and Bring everything you have to the table.

Original P90X vs. Bootleg Version

P90X Original BoxThe price of the P90X workout program with everything included in the picture retails for P90X $119.85 plus shipping. I know this may seem like a hefty price to pay for some DVD's and a couple of booklets. There are many bootleg versions floating around the internet these days or ebay pr craigslist and even some bit torrent sites that have the "workouts" for free. The problem with bootleg versions and even some used versions is that there are several disadvantages.... listed below are just a few that i have come across

  • No Accountability

  • The fact that you pay for something means that you took your hard earned money gave it to someone else in exchange for something that you value. When theres no value to something theres no accountability....so who cares if you don't exercise today, you didn't pay for it anyway right?

  • DVD's Skip or Not Functional

  • I have read so many blogs or threads or even a few squidoo pages about people who bought a P90X from ebay or craigslist to save a few bucks, and sure enough some disc is missing or it doesn't play right and skips and therefore throws off their whole workout routine. It's a small price to pay for an original, do it and you WILL be satisfied.

  • Missing Books and Guides

  • The Nutrition plan and Exercise guide are actually quite useful. I know yo may think that it is included just to justify the price of the program and therefore is treated like a stocking stuffer, but it is actually quite useful. Even after the 90 days are up you might enjoy using the recipes from the meal plans for many months or even years.
