As per reports, the unemployment rate for the north-eastern Pennsylvania rose to 9.7 percent from 9.3 percent in November 2009. About 400 construction employees lost their jobs in December. The educational department cut down about 500 positions. About 200 employees were laid off by the restaurant and the hotel sector as a result of their downsizing process. As President Barack Obama pointed out, although the country is coming out of recession gradually, it has still got a long way to go for complete recovery from unemployment.
