Why Latino Literacy is Important for U.S. Health Care providers !

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO !
  • Of the more than 20 officially Spanish speaking countries in the world, the United States ranks fifth, with 32,000,000 people who identify themselves as Spanish speakers.
  • By the year 2030, the Latino population in the US will be about 20% !
  • Mexico City, the largest city in the Western Hemisphere (2nd in the world), is the largest Spanish speaking city with 20,000,000 people. However, Los Angeles is the second largest Spanish speaking city in the world, with a Hispanic population of 46%.
  • Twenty four million people live along the US-Mexico Border
  • The US Mexico Border is the most frequently crossed international border in the world, with over 350,000,000 crossings each year!
  • Latinos are more limited in their access to emergency care in the US and in their home Latin American countries
  • The PACE MedSpanish program has developed an innovative and powerful strategy to address these issues
