Terrific intro to Alkaline living. I love my alkaline water filter and also cook in alkaline water.

I do as much as possible...6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables to start and 140 ounces of water per day.

That is a nice introduction to acid-alkaline diet. This is a very informative lens. The test and the food list are great. Keep up the good work!

i've learned that the more acid-based foods that i eat, the more my head will become stuffy feeling, or i will feel a few sniffles coming on. that is when, i immediately switch to healthy stuff, so to avert a cold. thanks for the lens. great info.

This is a very interesting area. I have read numerous places that the human body has mechanisms t help acid/alkaline balance, most notably through elimination, perspiration and respiration (breathing). Thank you for making this informative lens.

Ultimately, not following an alkaline diet....but an acidic diet will eventually cause some form of stroke or cancer. If you look at it most people are rotting from the inside out! We spend alot of money on looking good on the outside......clothes brands, hair, make-up, skin moisturizers, etc............., but what about the ph level of your blood?

What you have to say about PH balance also affects our oral health. By having an alkaline diet amazingly decreases the risk of tooth decay. Sometimes diet alone is not enough tho and now there is a dental procedure that can help bring back a healthy balance so that the bad bacteria in our mouths no longer thrives and causes tooth decay! Take care of your health - we only get once chance at it.
  • Chad Sep 7, 2009 @ 7:24 pm | delete
I have noticed a big impact when I pay attention to acidity in my diet.

What are people's thoughts on apple cider vinegar? Is it acid forming or alkaline forming?
I have seen it listed both ways.
  • tylersnow Jun 11, 2009 @ 12:24 pm | delete
Nice lens, I've been kinda following the diet as in I eat more fruit and veggies and cut out most of the bad stuff and it defintely seems to be helping

Hi Jeff. I've found your lenses before. I have found them all to be informative and valuable. Great info on important subjects. Love the pH chart! I've read before that no disease can live in an alkaline rich (pH balanced) body. Thanks for taking the time to make this wonderful lens. 5*s, and favoriting.

    Hi,
I'm sold on the alkaline diet. I was once very acidic and my health suffered, but after changing my diet and taking buffered ascorbates I have an abundance of energy and my health has returned.
  • jeffwend May 27, 2009 @ 9:42 pm | in reply to Keecia | delete
You are right that the vagina is supposed to be acidic. I am referring to the blood. When you eat acidic, sugary foods, your body becomes too acidic and this is when yeast thrives.

A slightly acidic vagina is necessary to prevent infections.
  • Keecia May 27, 2009 @ 5:29 pm | delete
Excuse me, but everything I have ever heard says that yeast thrives in an alkaline environment and that a woman should maintain the acidity of her vagina. Yes, the body maintains a 7.4 blood pH level, but to say that yeast thrives in an acidic environment is false.

I wander if this is related to the Traditional Chinese Medicine concept of the body being "Hot" or "Cold" (not temperature) and certain foods lying either side of that. TCM, from my limited understanding, is all about balance and regaining it. Anyway, I take it the PH chart is based on final breakdown, not initial conditions (ie a Citrus is Acidic, but breaks down to be an Alkali)? Interesting lens.

I'm surprised to see lemons under the most alkaline. I have to avoid lems, tomatoes and cranberries as they appear to trigger arthritis which I think is connected to acid/alkaline balance.
  • LarryBass Sep 11, 2008 @ 11:40 am | delete
Jeffman, you've hit the nail right on the head, with this Lens buddy! Most people are WAY too acidic and have So many health problems because of it. Trouble is, most of them don't know it, or believe it, even if you tell 'em yourself.

So, a hearty Canadian Thanx, to You, for telling a lot more folks right here, about balancing one's life though the proper intake of the best foods...

Great lens Jeff! I agree, the chart is great, i even copied it so I could look at it later and see what I could to buy more of those next time I go grocery shopping. I hope you don't mind me copying it. Oddly enough, most of it on the alkaline side I like. I've already cut out some ofthe stuff in the acidic side. I didn't realize the pH balance was so important. :-)

I have not seen a better explantion of acid alkaline balance issues anywhere. Hence, I am keen to fav, this an no doubt many others will be too. I know from my own work in biological treatment that all biological organisms are closely optimised in their peak efficiency around certain pH values. It stands to reason that our bodies, as one big organism so to speak, will live most efficiently, and all our bodily process function best at optimum pH conditions.

    Greetings Jeff !
This is a Lens after my own heart.
I have been vegan for years and boy do I eat correctly ! Run 3 miles a day, eat mostly raw food and don't even catch a cold in years !
If only people realized how much diet relates to health and all kinds of unwanted conditions....
    A easy 5 stars !
    Best wishes,
    Karem

Ask me to create a perfectly balanced equine diet and pronto!, I will deliver percentages vs work vs type vs age vs whatever in a flash. Ask me about MY diet and, oh boy, what a mess.. I just eat anything vaguely edible I happen to stumble upon at any time of the day. Better learn about humans a bit and I think this is a grand place to start - favved et starred, thank you for your work!

I've read one of the books about PH, and I tend to eat way to many carbs. It was good timing since I've really been trying to focus on my diet and eating healthy. I think I may try the PH strips to help monitor and keep me on track. Excellent lens you've put together here. One of my new favorites:)

Amen, Jeff! Balancing the body's acid/alkaline cycle is the way to go!

Dr. Emanuel Revici referred to this as catabolic and anabolic, which are the two metabolic cycles the body needs to go through each day. Most of us are too anabolic (too acidic as measured by urine pH.)

Dr. Revici started curing cancer patients in the early 1930's. He lived to be 101, so he must have been doing something right.

His method is now practiced on two continents.

Hi Jeff, Just the intro module alone was worth the visit. I drink too much coffee and eat too many acid foods. I need to check into your products and PH strips. This lens led me to join your fan club. Thanx for the info! ~Music Resource~

Great lens! I've lensrolled you to my lens on gout (a condition resulting from a too acidic--namely uric acid--system). I also fave'd you. Would be honored if you'd do likewise (it would help gout sufferers!). http://www.squidoo.com/hyperuricemia

    Nice info Jeff!
Though gotta be a bit careful about following all of Dr. Young's advice as he does skip the importance of metabolic types, though most people would benefit from trying to reduce the amount of acid creating food in their diet.
