Great info, i've come across your blog while researching the competition...
We're launching a similar service at marvelpress.co.uk, we specialise in smartphone cases and acrylic block sublimation printing. Have a look you might be interested in some of our products.

    Thanks

Interesting. I am thinking of using Printfection for my t-shirts because I don't want Zazzle or Cafepress's logos on my orders. Zazzle certainly has more visitors than the other PODs but it depends on what you want to do with your branding.
  • goldenecho May 11, 2012 @ 12:13 am | delete
Yeah, I think Printfection is a great choice if you wanted to build your own brand and are confident you can promote it yourself.

    Thanks for the reviews.

Zazzle gives you a pretty good amount of flexibility in your storefront if you're willing to brave Advanced Store Customization - great if you're comfortable with CSS and XHTML. Otherwise, not so good. Which is a shame, since that's the only way to put up a decent product menu. They have all sorts of cool features for SKs which make the omissions all the more glaring.

However, I'm more interested in exploring some of the other POD shops. With ArtsNow did you have any tax headaches with your earnings since they're based outside the US ?

    Thanks.

I didn't make enough during the short time I was with them to have to report it as anything but hobby income, so no. But if I had made more I might have. In fact,

Oops...posted before I was done. I was just going to say that I don't know if they send any forms like you are supposed to get if you make over $600 (can't remember the name of that one off-hand). If you wanted to you could register at ArtsNow (which is free) so you can ask on their forums how taxes are handled, or if you didn't want to do that T-shirt forums is a great place to ask questions about PODS (they have a section called Fulfilment Services which is basically another name for Print on Demand). There's people who use ArtsNow there who could probably answer that.

I am always interested in POD sites. Thanks for this list!

One of the most thorough pages on POD sites I've seen. I might recommend an update to include ease of use on uploading and product design simply because that's what gets me to Zazzle more than CafePress. I haven't tried to use the other POD sites you've reviewed here, but I saved this lens to my Pinterest boards, so I can come back and try them as I have time. I'm really surprised this one has not ever been the LOTD, but I'm still new enough I don't know how to recommend it either.
  • goldenecho Jan 24, 2012 @ 11:36 am | delete
I agree. While Cafepress makes it easy to put a design on multiple products, Zazzle makes it much easier to place designs like you want them. I love that at Zazzle I can make one design and simply enlarge or make it smaller to have it fit full bleed on a product, and move it around easily. CafePress does have a new way to place products which might include that, but I've tried to use it and got so frustrated I gave up. Printfection and arts now are sort of in the middle on this. I haven't uploaded a new product at Printfection or ArtsNow for a long time, so they may have changed things...but when I did I found Printfection makes it easy to add designs to a lot of products, and you can enlarge the image to make it full bleed (in stead of having to make a new one to fit different products like at CafePress.) Arts now was similar to printfection only you could also move items from side to side or up and down.

GREAT info. Just started with Zazzle for a High School club to earn money. So far so good. Still learning the tweaks of the store etc. Am looking for a few products in other PODS that they don't carry, so you saved me some research, thanks.

I check out some of the links. They look promising. Spoonflower looks cool for material, but I'm not into that, but my mom is. I am into Zazzle and Cafepress so far, really wanting to branch out a bit. Thanks for the great information!

Great Lens!! I'm using Zazzle now but might want to branch out. I hadn't realized there were so many choices.

I am using only Zazzle. Probably I'll try some new ones.

Great information on POD! I've had printing issues at both Cafepress and Zazzle, but find both great in the customer service department when this happened. My issue with Zazzle is the designs don't always print the way they look on their shirts ... which is making for a lot of extra re-design work for me or I do all my shirts at Cafepress, where I have no shirt issues.
  • marsha32 Jun 23, 2011 @ 8:22 pm | delete
Zazzle is the only one I've tried. I'm working at slowly adding more choices to my store.

CardGnome.com lets users send greeting cards from the web. If an artist is approved for a shop, they can start selling cards immediately at the highest royalty rates.

You need to add Wordans to the list of more POD services. As well as t-shirts, they have recently added hats, Converse shoes and other products. They are located in Canada.

I have been looking for a POD that will print journals, does anyone have any ideas or insite or where to look?
  • goldenecho Jun 9, 2010 @ 2:54 pm | delete
CafePress has journals, but they are more like notebooks. They are pretty thin with a cardstock cover, and the pages are unlined. They also sell books, as does Lulu, which could be made into journals. I'd love to hear any other places you find as I'd love to do better journals.
  • tjustleft May 9, 2010 @ 2:58 am | delete
Excellent lens! You have a wealth of information for those interested in print on demand. Many people do not even know what they are. I wish I had seen this page before I got started in the business :). 5 stars!
