Profit From Google Adwords and Other PPC Engines
"I tried Google Adwords and lost a TON of money!" That is a familiar phrase among Internet Marketers, especially those who are just starting out. As a matter of fact, I have said those very words myself.
I tried Google Adwords when I first got in to Affiliate Marketing because it sounded so easy...create an ad, people click on it and buy the product/service and I make money. Little did I know that there is more to it than throwing up an ad and submitting a bunch of keywords.
Some Helpful Adwords Hints
1. Ad copy
2. Keywords
*Obviously you need a product to sell, but we are going to assume you have already done that.
With a Pay Per Click Ad you do not have a lot of room in which to get your point across. You need to be short and sweet. Make your title as direct and to the point as possible. Giving the actual title of the product in your ad title seems to work extremely well.
Your ad copy should give as much information as you can give. Try not to be too broad in your ad as you will get more "lookey-loos" and less actual buyers. You do not have to be slick in your verbage. We are going for targeted viewers. The more you drill down your ad to the point, the less "just browsing" clicks you will receive.
Your keyword selection should also be very targeted. If you are selling a book on ...arthritis in cats, you don't want your keyword to be "arthritis" nor do you want your keyword to be just "cats". You will get a TON of traffic, I am sure, to your ads but you will end up paying out a fortune without making any money. You will get traffic from people suffering from arthritis to people looking to purchase a cat. So the key is to choose keywords that are highly targeted. Drill it down. It may take you longer to get clicks to your ads but those that click are more apt to buy.
Google Did It Again!
Is Google Out To Get Affiliate Marketers?
As of April 01, 2008, Google will no longer allow the display URL in an adwords campaign to be different than the destination URL.
In other words, if your destination URL is www.mysite.com, your display URL must also be www.mysite.com.
So how does this effect Affiliate Marketers? According to Google, they will no longer accept "display URL's that are actually redirects of a primary domain".
Tracking URL's are okay unless you use a tracking URL that "leads to a landing page with a URL that deviates from your ad".
So for all PPC marketers, make sure your ads are in compliance by 04/01/08 or you will run the risk of having your ads deactivated by Google.
