PPC Web Spy Not Working Solution Tutorial

A number of users have experienced some problems with Brad Callen's PPC Web Spy tool which include installation errors, parsing errors with Google code, and the green "Keywords" button not appearing even though the PPC Web Spy add-on is activated, among others.

With any new Mozilla add-on that interacts with a third party (Google Search) to function there is bound to be some issues. Brad Callen himself has addressed and continues to address these issues by releasing updates to the add-on as needed. One such update was released within less than 24 hours of a bug discovery.

Another issue that has arisen is that the PPC Web Spy add-on may conflict with some other Mozilla add-ons that are installed within the browser. Many users have tried disabling or uninstalling the other add-ons to try and discover which ones do actually conflict, some with success, some without; especially those with numerous add-ons that don't relish the idea of sitting in front of their computer all day activating and deactivating which may still lead to disappointment in the PPC Web Spy tool remaining non-functional.

We have a solution to your problem however that will take far less time and get PPC Web Spy working as intended and we call it the PPC Web Spy Not Working Solution tutorial. Please continue reading below.

PPC Web Spy Tutorial

The PPC Web Spy Not Working Solution tutorial is intended for those that have tried absolutely everything and still cannot get the Add-on to function properly. You will be required to do a complete uninstall and removal of Mozilla Firefox so,

- Open Firefox and goto (Tools> Addons) and jot down any add-ons that you really want to keep and install later on.

- Next, backup any bookmarks that you have. In Firefox 2 go to (Bookmarks> Organize Bookmarks) and then select (File> Export). In Firefox 3, select (Bookmarks> Organize Bookmarks) then (Import and Backup> Export HTML).

- Then remove Firefox from Add/Remove Programs (in Windows XP) or Programs & Features (in Windows Vista). During uninstallation, tick the 'Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations' box.

- Delete the folder \Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (This is the place where Firefox is installed, and on most of the PC's it is installed in the path C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox).

- Delete the following directories if they exist:

In Windows XP -
\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla
\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla

In Windows Vista -
\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Mozilla
\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\

This will delete all of your bookmarks and saved settings, so make sure you've backed up them. Also note down any passwords which you might otherwise forget.

- The final step of removal is to delete the registry entries of Firefox which have a habit of remaining in the registry even if you do a complete uninstall of the program. Make sure you save a backup copy of your registry in case of any errors. Using the Windows Registry Editor (Start> Run> Regedit), delete the following keys - ie. right click on their name in the left pane of Registry Editor and select

Delete:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MozillaPlugins]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins]

You may see a FirefoxURL entry but this is safe to keep. If any of these keys do not exist, do not be alarmed, they may not have been created during your particular install of the program.

- Once you have completed these steps goto http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ and download the latest version of Firefox which at the time of this writing is 3.0.5 and save it somewhere on your computer.

- Double click the install file for Firefox and choose custom install. Choose NOT to import any settings from Internet Explorer and continue the default installation.

- Afterwards using the Firefox browser visit the PPC Web Spy site and login as you normally do. Scroll down to the step that asks you to download the PPC Web Spy Toolbar xpi and install the add-on. After the addon has completed you will need to click on options in the Add-ons box and make sure the Toggle Global is checked and enter in the e-mail address that you used to register with and click ok.

- Your fresh install of Firefox will contain the Mozilla default search which will still function with PPC Web Spy but you can change it by going to (Tools> Options> Main) and under the (Startup> Homepage) field, enter in your desired Google search site. ie. http://www.google.com/

- You are done and PPC Web Spy now functions as intended. Carefully reinstall any add-ons that you jotted down earlier but after each fresh install verify that PPC Web Spy still functions. If you come across one that you know blocks PPC Web Spy post it here to let others know of the incompatibility. Feel free to post here if you have any others questions about the PPC Web Spy Not Working Solution tutorial.
