First Quarter Trickles Ahead in Gaming
There is always a post holiday letdown in the gaming industry that seems like forever, but as January 2008 starts to grind to an end the games are starting to pick up.
First Quarter is usually a good quarter for those games that didn't quite make it for the holidays. We always hope that this means the publisher has spent more time developing the games to make it better.
January is pretty slow for the Playstation 3 overall so we've decided to feature all games being released this month as well as any price drops that may have occurred.

One of the most popular racing franchise games has been totally overhauled. The game engine features speed boost gameplay at 60 frames-per-second Crash Deformation. I have not played this game personally, but it appears that the reviews are out and even at a budget price point you may want to save your money. From what I have read it appears that the game is full of glitches and just not worth the time. Time is money, but maybe if you wait for this game to hit the clearance bin, it may be worth your money.

Virtua Fighter 5 - Playstation 3
With a bunch of mixed reviews on Amazon, it appears that this is a game that you either love or hate. The graphics definitely take advantage of the Next-Gen platform, but it appears that the lack of online play has really hurt this game. If you're looking for a good fighting game at a great price on the PS3, then this is probably it for you.

Stranglehold - Playstation 3
After a long wait, this game was finally released at the end of October 2007 and it's already going through a price drop. Many have stated that this game would be really great if the graphics would take advantage of the PS3's entire capabilities. Of course, many know that developers rarely figure out the full capabilities of a system until well into the second year of a gaming system's existence. All that aside, if you have been putting off the purchase of this shooter until it was cheaper; now is your chance to purchase it at a lower price.

NFL Tour
This game is rated E for Everyone.
NFL Tour - Playstation 3
I know that EA probably doesn't like to interfere with the popularity of their Madden franchise, but why the heck would they release a game based on the NFL in January when the season is almost over? Secondly, I think they are just trying to take advantage of their exclusive NFL contracts by pounding out as many games as they can using the NFL: Madden, NFL Street, and NFL tour for example.
On the bright side, if you don't like how complicated the Madden football games can be, this might be the right NFL game for you. On the plus side, you won't have to shell out the big bucks to get this game on the release date of 1/09/2008 either.

Jericho - Clive Barker

Jericho: Clive Barker - Playstation 3
Clive Barker joins the ranks of film-makers writing their own video games, but it looks like this one could have used another couple of months in development before hitting the shelves. From reviews I've read it appears that the AI really stinks which is the biggest problem with this game. Bringing your team back to life for most of the game can really be a drag on gameplay and make for a long experience. The graphics and sound appear great, but graphics and sound are only part of what makes a great game.
Even though this game just dropped to a price point of $49.99; you may want to wait for further price drops or rent it first before dropping $50.

Madden NFL 08
I am not a huge fan of the Madden franchise because I just can't figure out the controls, but I do love football. I personally think that EA takes way too much advantage of the fact that they own the official NFL contract for football games and keep pounding crap out every year. They take advantage of a name and then charge full price for a crumby game. If you just got a PS3 for Christmas and are desperate for a Madden game, buy the 07 version (see Amazon link below) for $19.99 and save the rest of your money for something better.

FIFA 08 takes a price drop to $49.92 this month. It's good to see that not all of EA's 08 sports game were crappy. At least they are not ripping people off in every genre. Maybe that's because they have competition in the soccer arena?
I know I sound like an EA hater, but it seems like they are just taking advantage of people lately because they can. With their size, there shouldn't be any excuse for some of the crumby games they have been putting out lately.

Nascar 08 - Playstation 3
Another EA Sports price drop to $49.99. How the heck can they offer two player mode on the PS2 version and then take it off of the PS3 one? Don't tell me that it's because they ran out of room on the disk. Blue-Ray has a ton more storage than a regular dual layer DVD. Career options are limited and the varying modes of difficulty are too different. Even at $50, you might want to pass until the price drops or hope that 09 is better.

The Simpsons Game - Playstation 3
As you can see from earlier opinions, I am often a critic of EA games, but from the reviews I have seen from regular players, it appears that they got this one right. It's just the right difficulty for the average or below average gamer that might just pick up this game because the like The Simpsons. In fact, it appears that this could be a game that I might pick up and play with my non-gamer DH.
