Yes, I really did go back to Sony's OFW

Ask any PSP owner if they use custom firmware (CFW) on their PSP and the majority would answer "yes". Why?

Why I thought going back was a good idea

CFW is a great alternative to Sony's OFW as you are able to install homebrew apps on your PSP.

Homebrews are applications made by individuals that will let your PSP do stuff the original firmware wont let you such as the CXMB which lets you customize the entire XMB, not just the icons, as well and RemoteJoyLite, which lets you play and enjoy PSP on your computer monitor over a USB connection.

Not only that, you can install emulators of different game systems like the Neo Geo, Gameboy, NES, SNES, etc.

You can also rip your UMDs to the memory stick and play it from there. This greatly helps increase the battery life of your unit and helps reduce loading times.

So given all these advantages, why did I decide to go back to Sony's OFW? Simple. I did not need all that, nor did I want it. The only thing I liked about CFW was the ability to rip the UMDs to my memory stick.

The other thing that made me go back to OFW was that I didnt like the fact that the scene was so dependent on one man: Dark Alex. Everytime Sony comes out with a new firmware, everyone waits for Dark Alex to come and give them an updated custom firmware. What would happen if Dark Alex suddenly decided to call it quits (for real this time)? He pulled the "I'm leaving the scene" stunt twice as far as I know. At the time people were saying that someone else would step up and continue his work, but the sad fact was no one did. Granted there were a couple of people who came out with their own version of Sony's OFW, but they were buggy and/or not as well received.
