Terry Phizackerley was a popular Lancashire artist particularly noted for his paintings of the Lake District, Lancaster, the Lune Valley, Quernmore and Morecambe Bay but much of his work in other fields is less well known - but eqaully great.
About Terry Phizackerley
Terry Phizackerley was an artist who spent most of his life in or near the Quernmore valley just outside Lancaster. He particulary loved to fish the Lune and Wenning rivers, catching many salmon and trout on fly, spinner and bait.As an artist, he started painting at school, although few pictures from that early period have been preserved. He then went on to study at the Lancaster College of Art followed by the Royal College of Art where he gained degrees in fine art and industrial textile design. HIs 1956 thesis on the Structure of Pattern is held in the National Art Education Archive in Wakefield, England.
He is best known for his watercolours of Quernmoe, the Lune Valley, Ingleborough and the Three Peaaks and of the Lake District; however, the full body of his work is very much broader and includes dozens of textile designs, numerous drawings and sketches and a small number of oils.
There are very few resources on the Internet at present, but I have linked to those I have created and will add anything else that is of relevance either here and/or in one of the blogs.
Sample works by Terry Phizackerley
As illustrated by the gallery his work, Terry's work is very varied. He is best known for his watercolours of the area round where he lived, Quernmore, Lancaster and the Lune Valley. The example shown is a 1993 watercolour of Lawson Wood on the Lune. There are many more in the gallery. In addition to watercolours, he also produced 30+ oil paintings and a slightly smaller number of pastels. He also produced a few acrylics and collages, although the it is unclear how many of these more fragile works have survived. He also produced one or two wooden sculptures.
The site (once fully developed) will also include commentary on his technique and how he approached his work.

His work
A photographic gallery of his work is gradually being compiled on this site. The posts show the most recent items added.
This blog showcases his work. Remember that there are more pictures and information on the blog than I have space to show here.

Terry's great hobby was fishing. Indeed the indication that he was feeling his age when in his last year his visits to the Lune fell substantially. He fished many places, starting with the River Conder in Quernmore, then the Wenning before taking membership on the LDDA Caton beat on the River Lune. In between, he fished many of the lakes and tarns of the area as well as rivers and lochs in Scotland. It was a hobby shared, at least in the early years, with his with wife, Elva, shown here on honeymoon at Buttermere.
