Ranked #3,416 in Parenting & Kids, #109,555 overall
If you are looking to have your baby's nursery standout try looking at adding some hanging wooden wall letters. Wooden letters are very popular and can be incorporated into many different baby nursery designs. Large wooden letters can also be added to accent a living room wall or hanging above a fireplace. The ways to decorate with wooden letters are endless.
Painting the Letters
Buy unpainted letters so you can match or decorate the way you imagined. No one knows your taste better than you. In this lens I am going to explain how you can paint MDF, wooden wall letters in 4 easy steps.1. Prep the area. Begin by sanding the letters with 150 grit sand paper. The top surface of MDF usually smooth so you can concentrate on sanding the edges of the MDF. When you have finished sanding remove the dust using a rag. Do not use a damp rag; MDF will swell if it comes in contact with water.
2. Prime the letters. After sanding the letters you will want to apply a primer to the letters. Foam brushes or a foam roller does a nice job applying the primer. A water based primer will make the cleanup of brushes a lot easier. Apply the primer to the top and edges, you can apply it the back if you are going to the paint the back of the wooden letters. Let the primer completely dry then sand it with 220 grit sandpaper. Clean the letters to remove any dust.
3. Paint. Once again water based paint will make cleanup easier. For a smooth finish use a foam brush or a foam roller. Regular bristle brushes tend to leave streaks in the paint. You will probably need at least two coats but it will depend on the shade of color you are using.
4. Seal it up. This last step is optional. Depending on the paint you used. You may want to apply a sealer to the wooden letters. We usually paint with acrylic craft paint, non glossy, so we apply two coats of sealer to the letters.
Taking your time and following these steps will make your child's room, baby's nursery, or even your living room look great.
